The next morning, Jennie woke up to find herself lying on Chaeyoung's bare chest. As she felt a slight pain in her legs, she smiled and hugged him tightly. He hugged her back and they both fell asleep again.
When she woke up the second time, it was already noon. Chaeyoung was no longer lying beside her. She saw him sitting on the bed and getting dressed.
"Are you leaving?" she asked.
"Take a shower and get dressed," he pointed to the bag lying on the bed. "Dad called me, I need to go to the office."
Jennie was about to get up when he opened his mouth again.
"There are contraceptive pills inside the bag. Don't forget to take them. My driver is waiting outside. He will take you home." He said coldly and left.
Jennie didn't know whether to cry or laugh at herself. She covered herself with a blanket, took a pill as he said, and went to take a shower.
During the meeting, Chaeyoung found it hard to concentrate as his mind was elsewhere. He wasn't sure if the person he was thinking about was okay. Although he didn't have any plans to get intimate with her, he didn't want to leave her in that state. These thoughts made him angry.
He felt the urge to call and ask her if she was in pain. Frustrated, he closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair.
"Chaeyoung, are you listening to me? Workers in the north are on strike," Mr. Park said.
"Dad, don't worry. I'll go there personally and talk to them."
On that particular day, Jennie failed to bring lunch for him. He checked his phone and realized that he had blocked her, probably out of anger or frustration. Realizing his mistake, he regretted his actions and felt guilty. He didn't want to confirm but he was missing that figure. As a result, he decided to skip lunch for the day.
He returned home early and found Jennie sleeping in his room. He noticed that she was trembling in her sleep, so he checked her temperature.
Jennie then woke up and whispered, "Chaeyoung," slowly opening her eyes.
He asked "Does anybody know if you have a fever?” to which she shook her head and answered in the negative. This made the person feel quite angry.
"If you can't drink much why drink like that? Did you want to kill yourself?" He shouted angrily. He was actually guilty for the previous night but to hide his emotion he shouted over her.
"I_I.." Jennie started crying, she wanted to hug him though she knew he would not let.
Chaeyoung felt a heart ache seeing her crying like that. He didn't know how to console her.
"Why are you crying?" He sat beside her.
She jumped on his lap and hid her face on the crook of his neck.
"Chaeyoung it hurts so much."
He checked her body. "Where does it hurt? Let's go to see the doctor."
She didn't move.
"Chaeyoung."
"Say."
"Can we sleep like this?"
Chaeyoung pushed her and went to the bathroom.
Jennie lay down on the cold bed hopelessly. Of course he would not lay beside her.
A few minutes later Chaeyoung got in the bed and pulled her closer.
"I thought you'd not come." She turned to him.
"I really don't want to come like this."
"But you did."
"Jennie there is only a month and a few days left to complete our divorce prediction. I'll not move out of it."
"Is it necessary to divorce?" She asked.
"I feel like we've reached a point where I have to speak up. I waited for your love and affection for seven long years, but it never came. You have no idea how it felt to wait for hours in a restaurant for you, only to be looked at with pity by the waiters while you were out celebrating someone else's birthday. There were so many times when I needed you, but you were never there for me. I never called you when I was sick because I didn't want to be a burden, but I realized that I was never on your mind. I waited in my apartment day after day, hoping you would come over, but you always chose to go to your own house instead. I cried day and night and shut myself in my apartment. Even Seulgi knew more about your life than I did. You never once said "I love you" in seven years, and now that you finally have, I can't believe it's sincere."
"Like a normal couple I wanted to hold your hand, travel places. We would coddle in the rain. I'd pick you up from your office. You'd_you'd cook and I'd hug you from behind."
Chaeyoung sighed. "None of this was possible with you. You hurt me more than you can imagine."
Jennie didn't know what to say whenever he talked about the past she only felt regret.
"It took me years to divorce you. You know, I had been preparing myself for two years, and finally, I made the decision, but you didn't even ask or refuse. When you said you loved me, I believed you. You said that you would tell him that I am your husband, and you would not meet him again. I would not stop you from meeting him. But the story you made with his family and the lies you told me, I can never forget, nor forgive you for this."
He got off the bed, and Jennie didn't stop him.
"I am afraid of believing you again. The Jennie you are showing me is not yourself. You know yourself better than me. One day, you'll turn back to yourself, and I can't live my life like that. So both of us should separate. Jennie, you are born to be a CEO. A few months will be hard to accept the reality, but when you do, life will be easy and as usual."
