two feline figures, shrouded by the dark tendrils of night, battled with flashed claws and gleaming eyes. it was a vague scene and a confusing one at that. an ominous foreboding aura emanated off of the shadowed felines.
hollyhockfang huddled in the safety of his nest, his muscles taut beneath his pelt as the thrum of a strange dream pounded through his skull.
his heart pounded, echoing the brutal thuds of the paws against the unseen battle ground in his mind. the clash ended in death.
hollyhockfang jolted awake, his brown eyes wide with shock as the afterimage of one of the shadowed felines crumpled to the ground stayed with him. he could still hear the horrifying shriek of the fallen cat ringing in his ears. the taste of fear clung to his tongue and swelled around his mouth.
the tom rose from his nest and stepped out into the camp, eyes battling away the tired crust that had formed during the night. sunlight poured down onto the camp, casting elongated shadows against the grass.
he blinked, disoriented, and stared up at the dulled sky above his head, clouds rolling slowly overhead.
this peculiar dream had haunted the warriors mind for a few days now, and put the blame on perhaps him having eaten some fresh-kill that was sick before it was caught and brought back to camp, but, with as the days continued and the dream returned to his mind upon his slumber, his thoughts wavered on that fact.
sweetsun's face held a disappointed expression as she approached hollyhockfang. the absence of prey in her jaw proved an unlucky hunt. hollyhockfang could see how much it pained the she-cat to have come back to camp with nothing. especially at a time such as this, where leaf-bear threatened to clasp its cold jaws on the territory, and rain snow upon the land.
hollyhockfang gazed upon sweetsun as she slowly and cautiously approached him, her gait lowered and submissive. an uneasy tension heavily lay in the air.
he couldn't deny that he found a sense of comfort in her gentle gaze, the tone of her voice, and in her presence. but something in him just couldn't fathom what had happened days ago after he had vanished from camp upon her affectionate touch.
❝ are you okay? ❞ she quietly asked with concern wrinkling her brows.
for a moment, he contemplated just deflecting the question and retreating into to the warriors den. but he sighed and looked at her.
his tail swished back and forth uneasily against the ground. ❝ yeah, ❞ he mumbled then looked away. after some silence, he turned back. ❝ just a stupid dream keeps haunting my mind. can't sleep, ❞
sweetsun simply nodded, an understanding look flashed across her gaze. a comfortable silence fell between them, despite what had happened all those days ago, and hollyhockfang nodded his head to the space beside him.
