mothstar hit the ground with a heavy thud, and he let out an exasperated gasp. the tom-cat pulled himself up off the floor and shook out the dust that tangled within his fur and settled onto his skin.
❝ i wasn't expecting that- ❞ coughed the leader as he looked at his opponent, hollyhockfang, who stood across from him in the camp with his tail lashing left and right, his mouth stretched from ear to ear with a playful grin.
❝ i've improved. i'm not who i was all those moons ago when my mother abandoned me, ❞ the tom-cat crowed.
hollyhockfang let out a playful yet challenging growl, and his eyes flicked with excitement.
mothstar pushed off the ground forcefully, cutting through the air with grace and great speed. quick on his paws, hollyhockfang anticipated his landing and mocked a lunge for his flank.
but mothstar was no fool. he twisted mid-air, and landed on his paws, before bounding across the clearing - leaving hollyhockfang clawing at the air, before he tumbled into the ground with a grunt.
hollyhockfang's body dragged across the dust and he spat out a mouthful of dirt he had licked up on his unwanted journey from the sky to the ground.
his eyes flicked towards mothstar and he rolled his eyes. ❝ fooled me there, old guy, ❞ hollyhockfang mused and he laughed.
his paws slipped for traction as he skedaddled across camp and bounded over the river with mothstar hot on his tail.
laughing, hollyhockfang veered left and right. the pair looked like kittens who had just found their footing, and found use for their fangs and claws, but no matter who boggled, they cared not for any whispers or mumbling. they were having fun.
mothstar pursued after the black and white tom-cat and cornered him along the boundary of the camp. he smirked and clicked his tongue.
❝ well, well, well, ❞ mothstar drawled. he toed closer to the warrior.
hollyhockfang bounded forward. he zig-zagged for a few strides, before throwing himself towards him.
the golden furred tom-cat stumbled backwards and his gaze followed after hollyhockfang as he vanished back over the river.
mothstar lulled his tongue and slowly followed after him, happy to chase the tom back and forth across the river and around camp.
❝ didn't know we still had kits in camp? ❞ purred huntsmensight. the elderly tom-cat perched on the same side of the river as the playful leader and his warrior sparring partner, embraced in gentlesap's fur.
mothstar raised his brows and his lips pursed with a smile. ❝ since when? ❞ he questioned. his eyes flicked back and forth between the pair.
gentlesap choked out a laugh, her throat bubbling with a purr and the she-cat tossed her head left and right.
