Everything was blur after last night and all the sudden I woke up after having a dream about my dad

I liked for a second and first seen Blake still asleep on the couch in my room witch was weird cause usually she's up right now and then I looked and heard sherif peterkines

"Get decent sweetie we need to talk and don't wanna wake ur sister" she said then walked out

I got up and followed her out into the living room

"Sorry to brake in like this" she said as she leaned against the wall "but dcs called they wanted me to check on you and your sister see how use was doin so how are y'all? Besides the"

She pointed out my eye I must had a shiner from topper

"Oh no I'm great yeah fantastic" I say my voice was really panicky I could tell she didn't believe me "thanks for coming by"

"I'm so glad to hear you say that John b" she replied "but I heard a few things that worried me let me see if I can remember oh yeah one of the things I heard was that your uncle Teddy y'all's gaurdian hasn't been in the state for three months"

I grabbed a beer from the fridge and turned to her "yeah that's false"

"You don't have to say anything I know it's true I called the school" she said "they said you used to be a good student but now your failing all your classes"

"No no I'm only failing one and it's history the dudes a duck he's out for me" I tried to convince her "I heard there was a fight on the beach yesterday and there was a gun involved"

"Okay gun?" I say stupidly "did I get in a dustup yes but was there a gun? No no way"

"That's fine I know who it was I'll get to him" she said I knew she was talking about jj "all I'm worried about right now is making sure you and your sister is in a safe home"

"Yeah super safe sturdy" I say knocking on a desk "and uncle ts coming back"

"That what he told you?" She asked

"Yeah"

"Well if he is coming home I think you should be allowed to stay" she said

"Thank you"

"But if I stick my neck out for you you have to help me tit for tat" she replied

"What does tat mean?" I asked

"Let me see how can you help me oh I know" she paused "so a body was found in the marsh yesterday were you in the marsh yesterday?"

"Yeah we were fishing for some drum" I replied

"You catch anything?" She asked

"No we was skunked" I said and mentally face palmed everyone knows after a hurricane you can catch all kinds of fish

" strange" she replied "fishings useually good after a storm all sorts of things get stirred up you come across a wreck yesterday?"

I acted shocked "no"

She sighed deeply "your skimming just above the surface John b now down here is foster care juvie pretty big drop for a smart kid like you and a sad place for your sister up here is you your sister and your friends doing what ever you want outer banks or foster care on the main land your one inch above the surface John b if I was you I'd start flapping my wings now you sure you didn't come across a wreck yesterday?"

I was now sat on the pull out bed "yeah,yeah I'm sure"

"It's better if you didn't" she said getting closer to me "you understand? I'm gonna look the other way as long as you stay out of the marsh I got dogs living better than this john b you might wanna think about cleaning up"

She left I threw and can at the wall and put my head in my hands trying to think

All the sudden I hear little sobs and foot steps getting close

I lifted my head up and seen that Blake had woke up but she was kinda pale and wrapped in a blanket crying

"Hey what's wrong?" I asked putting her on my lap

"My tummy hurts" she said oh god why now?

I felt the sides of Her face and forehead she was hot I picked her up and brought her to the kitchen I grabbed some medicine and juice and gave those to her

I gave her a bath and put her in some pajamas

I put her in her bed to try and let her sleep but she wasn't happy I put her down

She sat up and started crying wanting to be held again

I sighed and picked her up wrapping a blanket around her at this point the pouges got here so I went outside

"What's going on with Blake?" Kie asked seeing Blake laying in the crook of my neck asleep with a blanket over her as pope sat on the chair jj picked up some rocks and sat on a table I had

"She's sick" I say

"Aww poor baby" she cooed and went and sat next to pope

After a few minutes of thinking I decided to call it off

"Look I'm calling it off" I said catching everyone's attention "Peterkin said if I stay out of the marsh she'll help me with the dcs"

"And you believed her?" Jj questioned

"Yes I believe her jj" I snapped

"An actual cop John b?" He said "you believed a cop"

"All Iv gotta do is stay out of the marsh for a couple days and she'll help me and my sister out" I hissed "it doesn't help that your ass was shooting the gun"

"You know what I should have done?" Jj said "I should have let topper drown your ass while I took Blake home"

"Oh yeah because topper was gonna drown me?" I snickered

"Sure looked like it have you looked in the mirror lately" jj said "Blake was scared have to death if I didn't do nothin"

"Tell me some more come on" I teased

"They always win don't they man?" He asked comeing up to me "kooks vs pouges they always always win!"

Jj punched a ball that was hanging for decoration

"It's okay!" Kie said

"No it's not okay! It's not!" Jj yelled "they don't want us to go down into the marsh that means there is somthing valuable down there and you know it"

Jj pointed at me but I just turned away

"I understand why you don't  wanna go your the golden boy you got way to much to risk and you your already rich as fuck anyway why would you bother?" Jj said to kie and pope "but you me and Blake man we got nothing to loose we really don't alright and I know it didn't used to be that way for you two"

"I don't wanna talk about this" I say and looked at jj "I don't wanna talk about it"

I started to push my way past jj with Blake still in my arms asleep

"So that's it?" Jj asked trying to stop me

"Just get out of my way bro" John b said

"John b listen to me I have a plan" jj said walking back up to me "you got the key to camrons big boat right"

"No jj" I groaned knowing where he was going

"There's scuba gear inside man" he continued "we borrow that and then we go down to the wreck this afternoon and that is what's gonna save you man you don't see rich people going to foster care and you don't want Blake going there"

I thought about it and figured what do I got to loose?

"Ugh fine" I gave in "here take Blake I'll be right back the rest of use stay here"

I handed Blake to jj who held her they same way I did thank god she didn't freak out  and I went off the the camrons boat
