Her first love couldn't be considered a first love if it was unrequited. Though, the memories and feelings were still fresh to her.

And it only makes sense for her first love to have been her best friend, right?

Kim Jiwon was everything and more. Every guy wanted her and it was hard to not see her the same way, especially to Wonyoung, who just happened to be friends with the girl.

The days things went down tracked back all the way to their late middle school days. They were mere year eight teenagers hanging out on an abandoned rooftop somewhere in the city.

The night was just settling in as Wonyoung stared at Jiwon who sat beside her, eyes closed and a soft smile on her lips as a light breeze hit her face and pushed her hair back.

It was moments like these where Wonyoung couldn't help but stare a minute longer at her friend. Moments like this where Wonyoung wanted to tuck the girl's hair behind her ear and hold her cheek. Moments like this where Wonyoung glanced at Jiwon's lips a few times before the other turned to her, forcing her to look away out of embarrassment and guilt.

"I'm gonna miss hanging out with you like this Wonyo," Jiwon eyed her and held a gentle smile. Her eyes curled into small crescents as the taller looked back at her with a light blush.

Wonyoung once again let her eyes drop to Jiwon's lips but this time, the girl noticed.

"Have something you wanna share?" Jiwon asked quietly, looking away with an equally red face.

With furrowed brows and pout, Wonyoung sighed, not knowing how to word what her feelings were telling her. It also didn't help that Jiwon caught her in the act.

She let her eyes fall on Jiwon again and looked for the other's gaze for reassurance, "We're old enough to understand these kind of things, right?"

"Right."

"And it's okay to be a little different?"

"Absolutely."

Finally feeling more assured of herself, Wonyoung sighed, this time, more calmly. She shifted in her spot on the floor and turned so her body was fully facing her friend.

The sun was finally falling downward and leaving, leaving behind a low chill as Wonyoung stared directly into Jiwon's eyes that were shaking but still soft.

"Do you know what I'm about to say?"

Without much surprise, Jiwon nodded, which only added to Wonyoung's nerves but it didn't scare her anymore, not when Jiwon assured her that it was okay.

"I like you Jiwon."

Now, Wonyoung's first love was very short lived. In the end, school ended and both moved onto bigger steps in their lives: high school.

Jiwon had rejected her out of her own fears and misunderstanding of herself but Wonyoung didn't mind and bid the girl a farewell with a long hug, knowing it would be the last time she saw her that summer.

Wonyoung grew out of her first love and before she knew it, she was a freshman in high school, full of unfamiliar faces and a new environment.
