xExelx I turned it into a twoshot for you xD

New year's eve. Boruto already helped pound mochi with the Uchiha family, although he felt like he wasn't much help in comparison to Sakura or Sarada. Now all that was left was to visit the shrine... And for that, he had to put on a Kimono.

"No complaints," said his mom, laying out all the pieces. "Make sure you put it on properly!"

"I know, I know." He started layering himself up, hoisting the Hakama to his waist. "Can you help me tie the obi?"

"One second, let me finish with your little sister first."

Boruto sighed and slipped on the uncomfortable toe socks that went with the geta sandals. All because his old man was the village head, he had to wear this stuffy getup. He'd been to festivals several times in normal clothes, and that was decidedly much better.

But as soon as he turned around and saw his little sister smiling and admiring herself in the mirror, the pout on his face softened. "Lookin' good Himawari! That color really suits you, ya know!"

"Hehe, thanks Onii-chan! I picked it out with mama! It's yellow, just like you and dad's hair!"

His blue eyes widened just a little bit as a subtle blush dusted his cheeks. "Heh, so that's what it was." He assumed her preference for yellow was always because her name meant sunflower.

"Boruto."

He walked over and stood in front of his mother as she went about fixing his collars, straightening his sleeves, making sure everything was crisp and formal.

"That should do it... Now to take a picture!"

Normally Boruto would be enjoying his time, chasing Himawari around the room and messing up his appearance much to his mother's dismay. But today... He wanted to look good.

He shook his head. If I think about it now, they'll wonder what's wrong with my face in the picture. Come on! 100% happy, 100% family friendly fun guy that does not have any sort of crush on any stupid girls! Dang it Sarada in a kimono, get out of my head!

"Hm?" Himawari looked up at him curiously. "Onii-chan, you kinda look a little red."

He snapped back into it to notice his hand was covering the cheek that Sarada kissed on Christmas and immediately yanked it away. "I was just-- Uh... Nothing! Ha! Haha..."

She batted her eyelashes in confusion. "If you say so... Oh yeah! How was mochi pounding? Is it ready to eat yet?"

"T-That? I think it turned out pretty good!"

"Mmm! I can't wait to eat it tomorrow morning. Homemade mochi is always the best!"

His dad finally showed up and they all gathered in front of Sai's camera for a picture. "Three... Two... One!"

Boruto hoped his face didn't look as flustered as it felt.

He blinked back residue from the bright flash and left the house with his family, trying to hide in his dad's shadow. With every passing second, his heart started beating harder. Did it have to be tonight?

Shaking his head, he froze and then immediately put his hand up to make sure his bangs were still in place. It had to be tonight. All of his friends, including Cho-Cho, were in on this plan. If he didn't do it, someone else would end up telling her that he was a just a wimp who backed out.

"Ah! Sakura-chan!"

Boruto stiffened. They were here already. He looked down at his feet and suddenly felt stupid. Why did he have to wear this lame getup? Especially the sandals. They were so uncomfortable.
