Jerry twirled his fork around his pasta, looked at it for a second and then set it down.
"You love spaghetti," Jerry's mother said looking at him disconcertingly. "Honey, what's wrong?"
Jerry went to say something, but then stopped himself. He didn't want to bring up what he saw earlier that day, especially to his parents. They'd think he was crazy.
"I'm just tired is all," Jerry said. "Can I go lie down?"
"Of course. I hope you're not getting sick."
"No, probably not. Goodnight mom."Jerry went upstairs to his room and sat down in his computer chair. His screensaver was of his favorite band "The Hot Rods" and it showed all four members in tight leather and their out of control hair. They were a 1980's hair metal group and two members had passed since the photo was taken. It was one of their early promotional shots for their second album "Hard Wired Desires".
Jerry clicked open an internet tab and went to Google. He began typing "death of Dolores Sandberg, Kansas" An article immediately came up from the Sandberg Times obituary dated April 4, 1957 titled "Passing of Beloved Sandberg Resident-Dolores Gambers 1917-1957"
Jerry opened the article.
"On March 25th, 1957, the town of Sandberg, Kansas mourned the loss of forty year old Dolores Gambers. Dolores was remembered as a staple in the local Lutheran church community partaking in the annual bake sale and numerous charitable events towards veterans of the Second World War. Her husband, the late Lt. Douglas Gambers tragically passed at the age of twenty three in 1943 during the bombing of Hamburg in Hamburg, Germany. Mr. And Mrs. Gambers have no next of kin, but Dolores was seen as a matriarch of the town being a mother to all who approached her and priding herself in bettering the town of Sandberg. She will sorely be missed."
Jerry scrolled down to an image of a smiling woman with black hair, next to a tall blonde man in uniform who was slender. She seemed to be quite happy and had kind eyes. Underneath the image was the text 'Dolores 1940'.
