"Do you have him"
Said a cool and deep voice through the red mask
"Yes, I grabbed him and left" Replied Spark-Plug (the lighting guy)
"Show me" said the voice.
Spark-Plug took a bag off his victims head, revealing Hypno
"YOU IDIOT" boomed the voice.
"I ASKED FOR NIGHTMARE" The voice jumped out of the shadows, revealing a red and black outfitted man. His mask and jacket were red, and he had his hood up. He was wearing a black T-shirt with a red logo on it. His logo was a cloud of smoke. He unsheathed a machete and held it up to Spark-Plug's neck, Spark-Plug tried to electrocute him, but Red-smoke just hit him over the head with a crow bar. Over and over.
"You better not fail me again" He muttered into his ears as he left him on the floor, and walked out the room.
(Back in the Vigilante Society's base)
"Come on, one more!" I heard Justin say I was about to do 250 pullups without a single break, I pulled myself up on the bar one more time and muttered
"2...50" as I let go and fell to the ground.
Luis (Zip-shot) Grabbed my hand and pulled me up. Justin has put us up in a training program, to help us boost our powers and our strength. He created a virtual simulator, that can study and use your weaknesses against you, to strengthen your power. There's a smart-person-reason behind it but that's just what I know. Justin's been trying to strengthen the size of the weapons and blasts I can create. (Agony is also helping with that) But I can create a giant 10 foot bow staff now if I want. Luis had been strengthening his tendrils, to make shapes, such as ramps for Justin's motorcycle. And he did this really cool move, where he makes 6 extra arms with sharp edges come out of his back. And has been adding more power to hit blasts. Justin's been doing basic strength training, and has been trying to increase the rate of his reaction time. To put it lightly, we were all ready for whatever this group of villains threw at us. (That's right, a GROUP. We struggled with a single one of those guys!) But that just gave us even more of a reason to prepare. But anyways, back to where we were. Luis helped me up, and Justin asked him
"Hey, Luis wanna fight in the dueling chamber?" I heard Justin call out from behind me.
Luis replied with
"si amigo" as he followed him into the sealed room.
"Jack, wanna join?"
"Nah I'm good, I'm way too tired" I took a seat at the head of our meeting table, I sat and turned on the TV, watching the news. I had to crank up the volume, because I kept hearing random shouts and bangs from the Dueling chamber. I was sipping a cup of coffee, and eating a donut as I watched the news reporter talk about something boring about global warming. And then they instantly cut off what the news reporter was saying, so a middle-aged woman could say
"We interrupt this broadcast to warn you that a giant purple tornado has taken over the commercial district." Like a movie character I spat out my coffee and ran to open the chamber door.
"GUYS, STOP FIGHTING WE HAVE A VILLAIN ISSUE" And with perfect timing, the alarm blared.
Luis and Justin both clambered out of the room, and waited for me to suit up. Justin typed in something on the wall, and the door on the roof, and garage door opened. Without skipping a beat, me and Luis swung through the roof, and Justin's motorcycle sped off with a screech. Luis swung low and created a ramp with his tendrils, that launched Justin onto the roof of a building. Justin drove his motorcycle on the building and jumped each gap. Once we made it to the giant purple tornado, It really set in how big it actually was. This thing was HUGE!
While we were staring at the size of the tornado, a two foot wide hole in the tornado opened up. Justin walked through, followed by me, then Luis. As soon as I walked in, I immediately noticed it was harder to breathe than it was from the outside. "
Welcome to the vortex, boys!" Said a voice from all around us.
"Is the tornado thingy a person?" asked Luis
"I think so, is it hard to breathe for you guys too?"
"Yeah" said Justin In Luis in sync
"Twins!" Said Luis with enthusiasm
"..."
"It's hard for you guys to breathe, because I'm taking away the air in the vortex, slowly." Said the voice from all around us.
"Remind me to upgrade my mask to have air tanks just in case" Said Justin.
I was thinking of an idea to get out of this situation, and I got an idea, me and Luis are gonna both create a wall in the way of the vortex, possibly creating an opening for us to run through. On the count of 3 me and Luis both made a wall, one side was black, the other was purple. I instantly felt a shock, as the entire tornado stopped on a dime.
"OW!" Shouted the man who ran into the wall.
He had black and purple armour. He blasted off towards me and grabbed me, and began running. Punching me at an extremely fast speed, like 10 punches a second straight to my chest. I managed to grab both of his hands and socked him right in the face, throw him off me, and create my bow staff. I held my ground, and we had a stare off for a few seconds, But before either of us could do anything, Luis came in and grabbed the purple guy's foot with his tendrils and slammed him into a nearby building. As soon, as the purple guy ran back, I fired a bunch of rapid fire purple blasts from my hands, which he dodged every single one.
"Is that the fastest you can shoot?"
Luis aimed his fingers at him, and all of a sudden he got launched to the floor
"Can't dodge what you can't see amigo" While the purple guy was stunned, I hit him over the head with my bow staff, then Luis hit him with his blast again, and I hit him with my bow staff again. Repeat this 7 more times, and he was defeated. All tied up the same tendrils that slammed him into the wall earlier. Crisis Averted I said while giving Luis a High-five
"Not quite yet" said a low gravelly voice with a slight southern accent.
He held up Justin by his throat His mask was torn up, half of it gone, his suit was all scuffed up and his armour on his right leg, and left chest section were all gone. As blue electricity went haywire throughout the suit. The man threw Justin to the floor.
"This, is what happens to heroes like you, first it was Hypno, then him, and now you two"
Another man floated down on two orbs of water, wearing a white and light blue outfit, his mask covered his eyes, but showed his hair and mouth. Me and Luis both nodded at each other and both attacked our respected villains, I had Red Smoke, he had the blue and white guy. I hit Red Smoke with 2 punches, which he blocked and swung back, it hit me. And disorientated me for a second. He was surprisingly strong for a normal guy. I created my bow staff and began spinning it around and hitting him with it. He tried blocking it but I got a few good hits. Red Smoke kicked me away, and then threw a smoke bomb at me. I started coughing because I couldn't see, and the smoke was filling my lungs. I guess he was good at staying on brand because the smoke was red (of course.) I created a shield and charged through the smoke, and smashed into him on the way out. I swung my hand with the shield on it towards his face, and smacked him into the ground, I tried to punch him when he was on the floor, but he rolled out of the way. Leaving a nice crack on the floor where he used to be. He jumped onto his feet and pulled out a crow bar and machete, and began swinging them in two completely different ways. I couldn't block or counter, The two weapons were so different, and the way he was swinging them made it almost impossible to dodge. Every time I got hit, I slowly got knocked down more and more. My vision was blurred, and my ears were ringing.
"Oh boy, this is getting bad. Let me take control here"
I instantly felt that same burst of energy from a month ago. Except, something was different. I felt like I was watching myself move, but not me moving, myself.
"Get back!" Agony yelled using my voice.
I caught both of the weapons, and threw them on the floor. I then created a giant purple ball with a pattern on it, I think it was Z's?
"Let me show you why they call me Nightmare" I said through agony's voice.
I threw the purple ball and when it collided with him, he got launched a few feet backwards and went limp on the floor. I slowly came back to my senses and got control of my body back
"Did you kill him?"
"Of course not, he's just having a dream that's meant to torment him" Said Agony weakly.
"I can't tell what's worse"
I swung towards Luis with one hand, the other hand I used to carry an unconscious Red Smoke. Luis was drenched in water, but he was still trying to prop up a just awoken Justin on a park bench, I dropped Red smoke on the pile of super villains next to him. I helped Justin get to his feet, as Luis tied all the villains together using his tendrils, like a big ball of evil friendship. Luis and I carried the ball while Justin limped behind us, like the world's worst victory lap, to the police station. I guess we managed to get a lot of attention, because as we all slowly shuffled to the station, there was an applause from a giant group of people who watched the whole thing go down. It felt kind of nice to get recognition for what we did. We entered the police station, but they told us they were gonna send them somewhere different, (Because apparently DCPD can't handle a bunch of supervillains for some reason) But before we sent the villains into custody, I found a blinky light on the inside Red Smoke's mask. I grabbed it and asked Justin if he knew what it was. Instantly his eyes widened and he snatched the blinky thing out of my hands. And as if he was never hurt in the first place, he shot a grappling hook towards a roof, and pulled out a blue and black gliding machine he used it to blast off over a lake, to get back to the base. In an instant, I attached a tendril to his leg, and I was basically water skiing in the air. When we got there, Justin landed very casually on the floor, while I proceeded to smash through a window.
"You're paying for that!"
I said "You and I both know that's not happening" As I jumped down to the floor.
I asked Justin
"So what about that blinky light interested you so much?" We both walked into the base part of the mansion, and Justin plugged the light into his computer.
"If I'm right, this should be a basic SOS feature. In case he got injured to the point he needed someone to pick him up"
"I wonder why he didn't use it earlier" I thought out loud.
"But..." Justin continued.
"If I can track where the signal would be sent if it was activated..."
"It would show us where their base is!" I finished the sentence for him.
All of a sudden Luis barged through the doors.
"¿Por qué son tan rápidos?" He said breathlessly
"We think we know where their base is" I explained to Luis.
"Why do we need to know where it is, if we already beat them?" I turned to Justin and asked
"Have you forgotten about Hypno?" He asked me, with a hint of anger in his voice.
I felt so stupid for forgetting. Justin uploaded the code from the chip he decoded, and sent it to his helmet. And after a quick trip through the city. We were there, just a basic building. Nothing screamed "Evil villain base" it was odd, I really expected something way different. I kicked down the door, and walked in. Instantly I was smacked in the face of the smell of burnt rubber. There were three doors, each with labels, "Armory, Conference room, and The sanctuary?" I guess everyone was confused because Luis spoke up first
"Didn't take this group for the religious type"
"Mhm" Justin agreed.
I simply kept quiet and decided to walk into the worship room. It was pitch black, and the only thing that was illuminating the room was the purple glow of my ring. I slowly crept deeper and deeper into the room, for a solid 5 seconds there was no sound. Until the sound of chains snapping echoed through the whole room, I looked in the direction of the noise, and what I saw terrified me. It was Hypno, his clothes tattered, his body was completely pale. with scars throughout it. His face had so many burn marks that he was almost unrecognizable. But he still has a crooked wild smile on his face.
"Oh my God" I muttered.
"What did they do to you?"
"..." I took off the chains that were tied to him, I tried talking to him, but all he did was just smile. While I turned around to look at Justin and Luis for help. Hypno slowly stood up, he stared at me. Still smiling
"He made me better" he said with a choked laugh afterwards. I took two steps back. And watched as he flew off, crashing through the roof.
"Hypno!" I shouted. Trying to get him to come back, but he was already gone. Justin found a light switch, and turned it on. Luis jumped back, startled with what he saw on the wall. It was a painting of a black octopus-like creature, with one giant red eye. There was a story below that read
"Before the dawn of time and space. There were two beings locked in a chase. One was Omnius, the source of all that is. The other was Nullity, the void of the abyss. They fought for eons over what should stay or go. What should exist or vanish in the cosmic flow. But Omnius grew weary of this endless strife, and sought to preserve his power and his life. He chose a planet as his final resting place, and looked for a worthy host to embrace. He found a human with a brave and noble heart. And transferred his power before he fell apart. But Nullity was not done with his ancient foe. He followed Omnius to the planet below. He challenged the human to a final duel. To decide the fate of all reality, so cruel. The human had no choice but to accept the fight And hoped to use Omnius' power and his light. To overcome Nullity and his dark despair. And save the world from becoming empty and bare"
There was a long 10 second pause after I finished reading. We were all at a loss of words until finally Luis spoke up "At least we know who they wore worshipping?" He said sheepishly. "Dude, not now" I said in a low voice. We all met outside the building and said our goodbyes (Not forever obviously, we were still gonna do superhero stuff) but, we're all really tired. So me and Luis called a cab, rather than swinging, and Justin hopped on his motorcycle. And we all went separate ways. Later that night, I stayed up thinking about who was the lucky guy to get the Powers of Omnius.
(22 years later in a different dimension)
"Nullity, you must stop this. We both grow weak, one of us may fall. And we cannot live without another"
"Foolish brother, only you can't live without me. For I have always been the stronger half"
"Have it your way. Brother" Omnius created a giant explosion of cosmic energy that launched Nullity back. Omnius proceeded to travel to a different dimension, and hid in a little planet named earth. To be continued in Crusader University
