It was a normal Wednesday morning; I was riding my bike to the boutique to water the flowers before the sun rose. My MP3 player was blasting my workout playlist, TobyMac, Brandon Heath, and Moriah Peters. I was happy, happy with my morning and my life. I was a 25 year old small business owner and I loved my job, It’s this unique cross between a Flower Shop a Coffee House and a Hallmark Store, with this little bookstore on the top floor.
When I finally reached the boutique I dismounted my bike and unlocked the door.
“Hey Ray”
My best friend and assistant, Gina stood near the café with a cup of coffee.
“Want some?”
“Sure” I responded. “When did you get here?”
It was 5:00 AM Gina being early was rare.
“About half an hour ago” She replied, “I had to make my hangover remedy and I didn’t have the supplies at my house, so I came here…”
“GG, Another hangover? It may be time to stop hitting the clubs midweek. “
“I know! But I need to get a guy! Do you know when valentine’s day is?”
“Yes Gina, According to the countdown timer you so graciously put on my phone I know that we have…” I pulled out my phone to check the timer on my home screen. “ 118 hours 30 minutes and 55 seconds to find you a valentine’s day love.” I slid my phone into my back pocket, rolled my eyes and walked toward my Orchids.
“Rhea, I know you’re used to being alone on valentine’s day but…”
“Really?!” I interrupted her, “Gina that was really rude.”
“Ray, I’m sorry but I just feel like you’re being insensitive, you know that I haven’t been alone on valentine’s day since junior year of high school.” She sounded hurt and sympathetic at the same time.
“Gina I’m sorry Josh broke up with you, But he was not good enough for you ok?” I tried to console her, Joshua, her boyfriend of 8 long years dumped her last year after he decided it’d be a good idea to marry his philosophy teacher while he was at school in Europe. What’s worse is that his philosophy teacher was already married, to two other men. Yep, he left my gorgeous young loyal friend for a polygamous fifty year old woman who is in his words…”Extremely understanding and wise” Gina cried every day for two weeks until her sister told her she needs to get a new man. Gina developed a complex after that, she was like a Lioness on the prowl.
“I’m sorry Ray, you’re right it’s not your fault I fell in love with an idiot. “
“Gina” I walked toward her and gave her hand a squeeze “It’ll be ok, God has someone two-billion times better than Josh just waiting to find the woman of his dreams” She smiled.
That was my philosophy, what I’d been harping on forever, God has a somebody for everybody. And when you find that person you will know.
