The kiss seemed to have awakened long-forgotten emotions inside of her ; emotions that she had felt many years ago ; emotions that were now unfamiliar. Part of her wished that she could bury all the feelings deep inside her heart just as they were because she knew that it would be almost impossible to bear to have her heart broken again.
The effort to hide her feelings would prove futile, she thought, as her eyes landed on her husband who was busy eating his breakfast. Her gaze lingered on his moving lips, proving to be a reminder of their shared moment from earlier. Had she fallen in love with him again? She found herself asking. Or had her earlier feelings never disappeared?
As the day progressed, Meerab found herself to be drawn to his lips. She found herself wanting the feel of his lips on hers, craving the taste of his mouth. Even now when he was busy looking over some files, Meerab's gaze was fixated on him, specifically lingering on his lips.
He must've felt the heat of her gaze because he looked up just then. Meerab immediately averted her eyes but was a second too late and he noticed it. "Aese kya dekh rhi ho?" he asked, a boyish smirk replacing his serious expression.
"Nahi mei tou nahi dekh rahi," she replied, a crimson hue staining her cheeks.
"Wo tou mei ne dekh liya ke nazrein kaha thi," Murtasim continued.
"Han tou. I'm your wife it's my right," she said in her defense and then stopped abruptly when she realised what she had just said.
Murtasim got up, his eyes shining with happiness. "Phir se kaho?"
Meerab ignored him. "All the rights are only for my officially wedded wife," he said as he sat on the bed, in front of her.
The crimson on her cheeks deepened. Murtasim grabbed one of her hands with his uninjured hand and brought it up to his mouth, kissing her knuckles softly. "Agar goli lagnay pe ese treat karogi tou dil karega ke roz hi lag ja..."
Meerab immediately brought her other hand to his mouth causing him to stop speaking. "Allah na karay Murtasim," she said fearfully, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Agar keh dogi ke mujhe khone se dar lagta hai tou dil ko sukoon mil jayega Meerab."
"Mujhe kisi cheez se dar nahi lagta," she said defiantly, looking away from him as she pulled her hand out of his grasp.
"Of course." Murtasim, though a little hurt by her words, was undeterred by Meerab's attempt to divert the conversation and maintained a tender gaze. "Tumhe nahi lagta hoga lekin mujhe lagta hai," he continued.
"Kiya?" she asked turning her head to look at him again.
"Dar. Tumhe khonay ka dar, Meerab. Tumhe akela chorr ke jaane ka dar."
Meerab's eyes softened at Murtasim's vulnerability, realizing the depth of his concern.
"Kuch kahogi nahi, Meerab?" He asked softly, slowly reaching for her hand again.
Meerab shook her head and brought her hand forward, intertwining her fingers with Murtasim's.
How could she tell him that she was indeed scared of loosing him? Her whole life had started to revolve around him ever since her parents abandoned her. What if he left her too upon finding out her fears?
Murtasim, as if sensing Meerab's inner turmoil, gently squeezed her hand as a comforting gesture. "Tumhe kuch kehne ki zaroorat nahi hai, Meerab. Mei tumhare dil ke haal se waqif hu."
"Be careful next time, Murtasim. Agar tumhe phir se goli lagi tou....tou mei..." She paused unable to think of anything that she could tell as a threat.
"Bas chorr ke matt jana baki tumhari har saza qabool hai mujhe," he quipped chuckling lightly.
"I'm serious," she said as a lone angry tear made its way down her cheek.
"So am I, meri jaan," he said softly, wiping her tear away with his thumb. "I can not live without you."
With his hand now resting on her cheek, he moved in closer to her and pressed his lips against hers. He continued to suck softly onto her lips till she opened her mouth, granting him access.
