"Thanks for the ride!" I said to Sherry as I got down her car.
"No problem Karly."
" Told you..... I'm not a bitch at times. Can you believe it? After sneaking out of my room and ruining my father's car, I drove you home." She said grinning.
"Have you taken weeds lately?" I asked laughing."
"By the way, what did you say about the van?" I asked.
"I got it all under control." she winked.
"Bye!"
She drove off. I waved to her as a sign of goodbye.
I didn't figure out what kind of excuse Sherry did to take me home but I think she paid her debt pretty well this time. I took a look on my watch and it was already midnight. I guessed that Stephanie would be drunk again. A sudden worry rushed through my head. I forgot that I needed to take care of her. I already pictured the scenario inside the house. There would be vomit everywhere, wrecked chairs and tables, and a filthy Stephanie. No matter how mad I am, I can't resist helping her because she's my mom. I walked past the gate and entered the door.
"Stephanie!" I shouted worried.
"She's fine Karly." The voice sounded familiar.
I turned around and saw Rico. He had cut his shaggy hair into a casual short straight hairstyle. His eyes were more clear and bold looking. He looked more masculine than before but he wore his serious face this time. He was in a black shirt and jeans. He looked like a normal handsome highschool guy. I felt joy for the first time my eyes saw him.
"I-I thought you were gone?" I mumbled.
"I thought so too." He grinned.
"What happened? I thought Steph called the authorities to get you?" I asked.
"Maybe she called them off because of you." He started smiling at me.
"Why are you looking at me like that? You're crazy!" I smiled. "So, where's Steph"? I asked concerned.
"Oh yeah, she's upstairs waiting for you." he answered.
"She's waiting for me?" I wondered.
I climbed upstairs to check on her. I entered her room quickly and got surprised of what I saw.
"You didn't care to knock did you?" Stephanie said.
She looked completely fine and well. Her hair wasn't all over the place. Her shirt was clean and tidy together with her pants. In short, she wasn't drunk. She is sitting right next to the lamp in her room, reading. I never saw Stephanie like this in years. Her transformation was just unimaginable.
"What happened to you?" I laughed.
"I didn't mess up." She smiled and gave me a hug. "I'm so sorry Karly." she apologized.
"It's okay. But, I think I will never get used to seeing you so clean for now on." I smiled in delight. "I'm sorry for the words I've said to you earlier. I didn't mean that. I promise." I apologized as she hugged me even tighter.
"As for Rico staying here, you're getting busted." She crossed her arms. "Let us not forget that you were nearly killed that night." She raised her brow.
"Why are you so... mom-like?" I asked making a weird face.
"Don't ruin my moment." She rolled her eyes.
