December 2014

What can I say?

Christmas excites me. It satiates that need for normality that my inner child so desperately craved. I also loved gifts, and loved Christmas music, and while the snow was a hard pass for me, Christmas is still a win.

Out of all the days in December, today was my favourite. The big 2, 5 has finally arrived (ha, that rhymed).

Despite what I told Bucky, this year would be my first year celebrating Christmas ever. Yeah, my family wasn't too big on the holiday. Pathetic, isn't it?

Going to sleep last night had been difficult, but now morning had finally arrived. I bounded out of bed and couldn't resist doing a little spin in the mirror so I could study my Christmas pyjamas. They looked fine, I decided, so now it was time to go do what I do best and bother Bucky. I grabbed the present I had gotten him and flung my door open. Air chillier than in my apartment met me with open arms.

Lucy and I had gone present shopping a few days ago, which may not have been the best of times, but Lucy is so busy and stressed all the time. It was the only chance we got. I had great fun, window shopping with Lucy in the giant mall they had and trying hot chocolate with marshmallows for the first time. We laughed and talked (actually, Lucy ranted. I decided it was best because by the sounds of it her two exes were driving her up the walls) and people-watched and spent money. I think I got the right thing for Bucky, and I was even especially sneaky and got something for Lucy, Jack, and Matilda too, since they were kind enough to invite us to spend today with them.

I didn't bother knocking on Bucky's door, and walked right in. The sight I saw probably made my top five favourite moments. Bucky stood at the kitchen stove, flipping pancakes in a light wine-red shirt with his gloves still on. His muscles rippling and the silver of abdomen I could see while he slid the pancake from the pan to a plate was a nice view, don't get me wrong, but believe it or not, it got better.

Perched atop his head was a sparkling Santa hat, and giggling at the table was Jack and Matilda, both of whom were still clad in their pj's too. Matilda was standing on a chair dancing to the radio's Christmas music, and the sweet, domestic sight made me beam. I was so happy right now. Was this what everyone felt like on Christmas day?

'Morning, everyone,' I decided that I had appreciated the sight just enough before it got creepy. I placed Bucky's gift on the bench and tickled Matilda in the middle holding one of her hands so she wouldn't lose her balance as she giggled. 'Got any pancakes for me?'

''fraid not,' Bucky smiled at me as he stage whispered, 'Jack eats enough for ten.'

I laughed as the teen in question rolled his eyes. 'Not surprising. What are you guys doing up here anyway?'

'Mum's worker is coming in late, so she's holding down the lobby until they get here. And it is way too awkward between our dads to spend the morning with them, so we decided to show James here our Santa presents.'
