The next day, Amber and I lounged in the living room. "So, Indiana told me something interesting today," I said, not taking my eyes off the screen.
"Oh? What's that?" Amber replied, half-listening as she scrolled through her phone.
"Patrick Lipinski followed her on Instagram," I said, trying to sound casual.
Amber looked up, her eyebrows raised. "Wait, what? Seriously?"
"Yep. And he even liked a couple of her photos," I added.
Amber chuckled, "Wow, seems like someone's making moves."
"Yeah, on Indiana, apparently," I replied, rolling my eyes.
Amber laughed. "But aren't you the one he's actually interested in?"
I shrugged. "Maybe. But I'm not interested in dating right now."
Our conversation was interrupted by the sound of the front door opening. Dad walked in, looking tired but cheerful.
"Hey, girls," he greeted us, setting his bag down. "How was your day?"
"Good," Amber replied, stretching. "We were just talking about Pat."
Dad raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What about him?"
"Indiana told us he followed her on Instagram," I explained.
Dad chuckled, "Patrick's a good kid. You know, he asked about you today, Audrey."
I felt a slight blush creep up my cheeks. "Really? What did he say?"
"He just wanted to know how you were doing," Dad replied casually. "You should give him a chance. He's a nice guy."
"Dad, I don't even know him," I protested. "And besides, I'm not interested in dating right now."
Dad smiled knowingly, "Just keep an open mind, Audrey. You never know."
Later that evening, as I was finishing up some work on my laptop, my phone buzzed with a notification. It was a message from Patrick.
Patrick: Hey, Audrey. It was nice meeting you yesterday. How's your day going?
I stared at the message for a moment before typing a response.
Audrey: Hey! It was nice meeting you too. My day's been good, just catching up on some work. How about you?
Patrick: Pretty good. Just finished practice. Maybe we could hang out sometime?
Audrey: Maybe. We'll see.
Patrick: Cool. Let me know. Have a good night!
I put my phone down and sighed. Maybe Indiana and Dad were right. Maybe Patrick wasn't so bad after all. But I wasn't going to rush into anything. For now, I had enough on my plate with work and family.
As I got ready for bed, I couldn't help but think about what Dad had said. Keeping an open mind didn't mean I had to jump into anything. But it wouldn't hurt to get to know Patrick a little better. With that thought, I drifted off to sleep, dreaming of footy games and new friendships.
