Valentine Hoffman had followed the stranger to a backend motel, his teeth chattering from the cold. The red-eyed stranger hadn't spoken a word since introducing himself, and Valentine was growing nervous.
"We're here, kid." The man spoke, and Valentine looked ahead. He tilted his head, and his eyes immediately narrowed. Infront of him stood a run-down cabin, covered in cobwebs and dust.
"You live here?" The young boy asked, and the adult froze.
"In a way, I guess so."
Valentine scoffed but followed the male inside the cabin. The older of the duo immediately entered the kitchen, bringing back a sandwich in no time. Val accepted the food with little to no hesitation, stuffing his face into it. The adult, Garrett, gave a small smile and cleared his throat.
"What's your name, kid?" Garrett asked, eyebrows raised and hands in front of his chest.
Valentine wiped his mouth and swallowed his food.
"Valentine Hoffman." the homeless boy replied, and Garrett nodded.
"Valentine Hoffman. What do you know about vampires?"
"Excuse me?" Valentine responded, his eyes wide and mouth slightly parted.
"Vampires, kid," Garrett said, and Valentine cut him off.
"Yeah, yeah I heard that part Garrett. And I guess I know of them." Valentine responded quietly, and Garrett narrowed his eyes.
"How? You're not supposed to know of our kind." Garrett hissed out, and Valentine shrugged.
"Well, you live on the streets long enough, people disappear. They talk, and then you figure it out. My friend, Bree, she was killed a month ago. She came back, and she sobbed to me about how she was cursed and a vampire. I haven't seen her since." Valentine inclined, and Garrett nodded slowly.
"Well, your friend, did she explain anything else?" The vampire asked, clearly annoyed that the human knew of his kind.
"Not really. I let her drink some of my blood," Garrett cut him off, standing up and flashing to the human boy. He searched the child for wounds and glared at him.
"What do you mean, you let her drink you? Do you even know how dangerous that is?" Garrett demanded, and Valentine shrugged.
Garrett sighed, and sat down.
"What do you know about soulmates?"
