Three days after her families funeral, Gracie stood in the entryway if her house, running her fingers through her hair. At any second, a social worker would show up at her house with her new "family". To say Gracie was scared is an understatement. On the outside she looked cool and collected, but on the inside, she was freaking out. She didn't want to have to move on so quickly. Most of her things were packed, a lot of the furniture from the house had already been put into storage, and a "for sale" sign sat in the center of her yard.
A knock sounded on her door, signaling the arrival of the social worker, Karen, and her new "family". Gracie put on the biggest, most fake smile she could, and opened the door.
"Gracie, dear! How are you?" Karen's high pitched voice squealed.Gracie muttered something that sounded like an "okay". Behind Karen was a tall women with strawberry blonde hair. She reaches out her hand to shake with Gracie.
"My name's Pepper," she said with a perfect, bright, white toothed smile. So perfect it made Gracie cringe.
"Nice to meet you," Gracie said quietly. Having been in the house before, Karen lead them all to the living room. Gracie sat on the leather chair across from the couch where Karen and Pepper seated themselves.
"So," Karen started. "Let's get straight down to business. Your mom and step dad left you in the hands-"
"Woah woah," Elizabeth interrupted. "What do you mean step father?!"
Karen froze. Pepper's eyes widened. "Y-you didn't know?"
Gracie sat frozen in her seat, mouth hanging open slightly. Before anyone could say anything else, she rushed up to her room, tears in her eyes.

Several minutes later, Pepper quietly made her way up the stairs. She knocked softly on Gracie's door before entering.
"Gracie, honey, are you all right?"
Gracie laid face down on her bed. She had only cried for a minute or two before realizing how useless it was. Crying wasn't going to change anything. She was still upset, though. Why hadn't her parents told her? Why did her real dad give her up in the first place? Had he known she even existed until recently?
Gracice sighed before sitting up, facing Pepper.
"What's he like?" she blurted. Pepper looked startled for a second, before composing her self. She smiled slightly.
"He's a genius. He's always inventing something new. But he's also quite arrogant. I'm one of the only people that actually puts up with him. From what Karen tells me, you two are gonna get along just fine." Pepper smiled at Gracie after her speech, feeling as if she described him perfectly.
"What's his name?"
Pepper smirked. "Tony Stark."
