Scene 2 - action (continued)

Sally gently rub Percy's face before she stared to speak once again, "a long time ago, I... met a man, here on the beach. He was wise and brave and kind and... noble. From the moment I first saw him, I knew that... that I had never met a man like him before." She glanced over at Percy. "And then I realized he was unlike any man I had ever met before... because h... he wasn't a man at all. He was a god" She continued and I chocked on the water I was drinking.
"You fell in love with a God? Like... like- like Jesus?" Percy asked completely lost at what his mother was trying to tell him.
"Not God. A God. Percy..." she cleared her throat as she turned to face him. "...the stories... that I have told you about Greek gods and heroes and monsters, they are real" she looked over at me who was lost in thought not really even listening to her. She let out a sigh before looking back at her son.
"Mom-" Percy started to say something but he was quickly cut off by his mother.
"In those stories, I have told you about how gods and mortals would sometimes have children together..." this time she was cut off by Percy.
"Mom, please, stop." He looked at her, confusion and the tiniest bit of anger in his eyes.
"A god?" I had mumbled... "wait wait wait, so you are saying that one of our parents are a god?!" I asked in shock as I stood up. "oh my god..." I trailed off as I started to have a panic attack. Percy and Sally rushed over to me and helped me with my breathing before Sally spoke up again.
"Well Percy's father is a god, I'm not too sure about your parents, I don't know if both of them are gods, or one of them is, your mother didn't tell me anything." She rested her hand on my knee as she explained my unknown situation. I just nodded, still confused as hell, but I just went along with it.
"When mortals and gods have children together, the are called demigods or half-bloods" she spoke as she looked at Percy, her eyes begging for him to just believe and listen to her.
"That's what the monster called us" Percy spoke as he looked over at me, before he turned back to his mom. "Mom, what's happening?" He asked, confused out of his mind.
"You are a half-blood, both of you could be, but Percy you are most definitely a half-blood." Sally explained as she set on of her hands on Percy's knee as a sign of comfort. "And half-bloods are not safe in the world. Once they reach a certain age and they begin... to understand what they are, terrible forces are drawn to them, driven to harm them before they can become strong enough to fight back. That is what both of you have been feeling. It has always been a part of who you two are, it was always coming, I just..." she was once again cut off by Percy asking a question.
"Why are you telling us this?" He knitted his eyebrows together in confusion as he stared at him mom.
"Percy, I know this is hard to understand, but you have to believe me that this is real, both of you do." She looked at both of us, both Percy and Sally were a little shocked when I shot up off of the couch.
"No, this is crazy. Okay? I am not a god. There is something wrong with my brain. I understand that I am weird, believe me, I get it, we get it, but I'm afraid something is really broken now." I started to rant, I was getting worked up, the storm seemed to be getting more and more aggressive, as I continued to get angrier and more anxious.
"oh, Aurora, no..." she tried to comfort me but I just kept rambling.
"And- and now you're telling us stories, like it's going to make it okay? Well it's not. And I'm not a baby! I know there's no such thing as monsters, I know there's no such thing as gods, and I know for certain that there is no such thing as demigods, or half-bloods, whatever you call them!" My fists had closed with my fingernails digging into my skin. There was a knock at the door. Who could that be? I wondered as Sally got up to go answer the door.
"Who's there?" Sally asked as she grabbed both me and Percy by the arms, but then the person responded as they stood outside in the poring rain.
"Mrs. Jackson? It's Grover." Grover had said from outside as he peered into the house through the glass window on the door.
"Grover?" Both me and Percy asked as we looked at each other before looking back at the door. The rain was poring even harder than when we had gotten here.
"This is a little time sensitive. Could someone maybe open the door? It's cold and pouring out here" we all heard Grover speak from outside and Sally got up to let him in.
"What is he doing here? We don't want to see him. Wait mom-" Percy said as his mom opened the door to let the poor boy inside.
"I asked to have a night, you said we could leave in the morning" Sally and Grover were talking, but we could hear them. I looked over at Percy and rolled my eyes as I went to go back to sitting on the couch.
"Sorry, I'm early, but I didn't have any choice." Grover explained as he apologized. "Things have changed, this is all developing a lot faster than we anticipated." He managed to get it all out in one sentence.
I walked back over, and stood next to Percy, with my arms crossed over my chest. "Early?" I asked and I saw Grover look at me.
"Perfect, they're both here" Sally nodded and Grover gave me a small smile, but I just gave him a blank stare.
"You should have asked me before you-" Percy got cut off by Grover when he stormed into the house, he had a backpack with him as if he was going to stay with us. "Whatever it is you're going to say I don't wanna... hear it." Percy stopped talking after he took in the appearance of his friend.
"Uh Grover?" I spoke as I also noticed the half goat sticking out of his pants. I looked at him with a confused face but Sally and Grover just went back and forth talking about things I, and probably Percy as well, didn't understand. Percy kept calling out to Grover, but he would answer as he was clear panicking, even though he was saying he wasn't.
"Grover!" Percy yelled louder which finally caught the attention of the boy, or should I say goat?
"What?!" Grover responded as he turned towards me and Percy, who were standing next to each other just staring at him.
"Grover, why is there half a goat in your pants?" I asked, as Percy just nodded along to my question.
"Oh it's- Oh! Oh, boy, she didn't tell you about... you didn't tell them about me?" He asked Sally as he turned to her.
"You're early." She stated as her hands were placed on her hips. "We'll continue this in the car, let's go." Sally said as she grabbed her bag and ushered the three of us to follow after her. Which we all did, me and Percy grabbed our bags and followed after Grover and Percy's mom.
We were all in the car, and honestly Mrs. Jackson was really cruising down this road. All of a sudden Grover spoke up.
"My job has been to guide you two to this moment. It's always an emotional roller coaster for a young demigod, so providing a support system is really-" I cut off Grover as I examined him up and down again.
"Who are you?" I asked bluntly as I slightly glared at him.
"I'm Grover. Your best friend and-" he got cut off by Percy, who was sitting in the front seat.
"What are you?" Percy decided to ask the better question, cause it was obvious who he was but not what he was.
"I'm a satyr. And I'm your Protector." He answered as he glanced at both me and Percy.
"You're our Protector?" I asked confused as I turned in my seat to face him. My head was slightly tilted to the side as I inspected the little horns growing out of his head.
"If I hadn't gotten the two of you kicked out of school, you'd have never survived the night." He explained but then he continued, "And what's chasing us now would have found you there easily." He said that so casually that I wanted to punch him, to make sure he was okay, cause if I'm being totally honest I'm freaking the fuck out. "I'm sorry. Usually, I can sense danger coming a mile away, but this time... well, no of us saw Dodds coming" he apologized before he continued talking about he could sense when monsters were coming.
"So you knew." Percy stated as he turned around in his seat once again. "That thing that Dodds turned into, you saw it happen? Why didn't you say anything?" Percy asked as he looked at Grover intensely.
"I saw some of it. The Mist kept her hidden even from us until it was too late." He explained as best as he could.
"Mist? What's a Mist?" I asked utterly confused.
"The Mist. It's the veil that hides the magical world from the human world. My legs. Dodds' wings. Even Dodds' absence, but it isn't supposed to hide things from me. That never happens. Something powerful is at work here. The sooner we get you two to camp, the better off you two will be... You told them about camp, right?" Grover looked over at Sally who was busy driving us.
"Not yet, no" she responded to him, not looking away from the road.
Grover let out a sigh before he started to explain whatever this camp was. "Camp is a sanctuary for half-bloods. A safe space where you can learn who you are and what the world is like on the other side of the Mist. Uh it's not far, actually, just a little ways past the bend up there." He said as he pointed out to the road in front of us. I saw him glance at both me and Percy as he held onto the back of Sally's seat.
"Mom, what else haven't we talked about?" Percy asked curious as I just leaned back, my head pounding from everything that is going on. I felt nauseous and confused and tired. I closed my eyes trying to get rid of whatever this feeling was, but it wasn't going away. "What else haven't you told m- us." Percy asked his voice sounding not so amusing. I couldn't see anything, I could barely hear Percy, who was sitting right in front of me. "Is that the Minotaur?" I heard Percy ask in a squeaky voice, though it sounded as quiet as a whisper. I open my eyes and let out a small gasp, my hearing returned to normal, the pounding in my head stopped. It all just stopped. I looked behind us, and yup there it was, the Minotaur, chasing after us. What the fu- my thoughts got cut off by Grover speaking.
"Once the attacks start, they never let up. Okay? Dodds was just the beginning." He looked at me with a worried look before turning to Percy before continuing. "He is next. He- he is brutal. He is relentless." I cut Grover off as I noticed something weird.
"He is still wearing underpants." I comment and let out a snicker.
Grover ignored my comment and leaned in as if he was going to tell the two of us a secret. "The Mythomagic cards were training. Everything has been training for what's still ahead of you two."
"What's ahead of us?" I asked before taking a deep breath, "There's more?!" I let out a groan as I sit back in my seat.
"Guys-" sally got cut off by Grover saying something very out of pocket, well not really but whatever.
"I'm actually 24." He stated, in a monotone voice, well it was clear he was panicking a little bit but it didn't show in his voice.
"Hold on, please." Sally told us and I looked at both her and Grover confused before I grabbed hold of my door. I saw Percy staring at Grover before turning around and buckling his seat. The Minotaur ran to the side of the car and I let out a gasp and I stared at it with my mouth open.
"Uh-" I started to say something but then I closed my mouth not bothering to say it. I let out a scream as Sally ran the side of the car into the Minotaur, causing us to be tossed around inside. "Omg, we are going to die." I mumbled as I closed my eyes for a moment before opening them back up. That's when the Minotaur rammed into the side of the car, smashing the window, tossing us once again. I was flung into the door, my ribs smashing into the car door. I let out a hiss before trying to sit up properly, I looked up as I heard a truck horn honking at us. I was absolutely terrified, I held onto the door handle, honestly ready to tuck and roll out of the car, if it was needed.
I saw Sally grab hold of the wheel and try to turn it so that the truck would hit the Minotaur. Which it did, and it lead us to be sent down a path in the woods. Sally grabbed onto Percy and I grabbed onto Grover, which he kindly returned the hug, sort of thing, going on. Then it all went black.
Grover had smashed the back window with his hoof, allowing him to climb out, after Grover had Percy help him get me out of the car, who was still very much passed out. Then Percy got out as he and Grover walked over and opened the driver door so Sally could get outs
"Is everyone okay?" She asked as she saw the two boys.
"Yeah, I'm okay, but Aurora is knocked out" Percy said as Sally nodded slightly.
"Okay, let try to get her up" she walked over to where I was laying, on the back of the car next to the bags. Sally placed her hand on my shoulder and started to shake me. After a god few moments, my eyes opened, and I quickly sat up as a gasp left my lips. She smiled at me and helped me hop down from the car. Percy came over to me and held my hand. I smiled weakly at him.
"This way!" Sally yelled as she started to head up a hill. Percy and Grover following after her as they helped each other walk, while I had followed not too far behind them as I still held onto Percy's hand. Grover had walked in front of all of us, and I stopped right next to Percy.
"We're here. That's the boundary. No monsters can cross it. Percy and Aurora will be safe on the other side." Grover turned around face us as he looked over at Sally who just stood there, with a sad smile on her face.
"Percy will be.. But won't all of us be safe?" He asked confused and I squeezed his hand in a comforting way. I just looked at the ground, my head still pounding from the crash. I just wanted to lay down and sleep. Tears formed in my eyes but I didn't care if they fell or not.
Sally walked over to Grover and stood in front of him. "Grover, I am entrusting you to protect my son, my only child, and his friend, the daughter I wish I had." She stated firmly.
"Don't worry, Mrs. Jackson, Percy and Aurora will be totally safe at camp-" he was cut off by Sally.
    "Swear it."
"What's happening?" Percy asked but he was completely ignored.
"Swear it, Grover! Keep them safe from anyone or anything that comes for them, that wants to do harm, that looks at them the wrong way. Do you understand me?"
"I swear!" Grover stated as he gave her a promising look as she just nodded. We were caught off guard by hearing the Minotaur roar in the distance, it was getting closer.
"I gotta go now, sweetheart." She said sadly as she looked at Percy. I glanced up at her a I still held onto Percy's hand, not wanting to let go.
"Go? What do you mean go?" He asked, not wanting his mother to leave him.
"I can't go with you." She stated as she shook her head.
     "Why can't you?"
"She's human." Grover tried to intervene but they both stared at him and he just nodded and turned around.
"You're going to need to be brave now, you have to protect her, and you have to protect yourself." She said as she motioned to me, "remember what I taught you. Remember the stories I told you. Especially the stories, they will tell-" Percy cut her off.
"No. No way. I'm not leaving y-" this time he was cut off by her..
"Perseus! Listen to me. You... are not broken. You are singular. You're a miracle. And you are my son. Hold fast. Brave the storm. I love you" she spoke to him in a soft voice as he just stared at her with sad, confused eyes. I hadn't noticed that I started to get dizzy again. I stumbled back when we heard the Minotaur roar once again, I let go of Percy's hand and he looked over at me in confusion.
Grover had walked over to us in a hurry. "We need to move." He told the two of us and Sally just nodded, agreeing with him.
"Give me your coat, both of you" she motioned to both me and Percy. I looked at her confused.
"Why? What are you gonna do?" I asked as I started to take off my coat. Percy following my actions.
"He smells half-bloods, that's what he's tracking, yeah?" Sally asked as she looked over at Grover who just nodded. "So if he smells you two in two different directions at once, maybe I can confuse him, buy us both a little time to get away." She took both of our jackets and draped them over her arm.
Percy walked closer to her, "mom please don't." He begged her.
"Hey. It'll be okay." She nodded as Percy shook his head, I looked up at her with tears forming in my eyes. One had fallen and she was quick to wipe it away. "You'll be okay." She smiled at me, and I gave her the best smile I could without breaking down in tears. She was like my second mom, I can't lose her too. The Minotaur let out another roar and we saw it storming through the trees so she pushed us towards the tree, urging us to get going now.
The Minotaur walked out into the open on its hind legs, me and Percy just stood there, staring at it. Sally pulled Percy into a side hug and gave him a kiss on the forehead, doing the same for me before she yelled. "Go! Now!" Grover grabbed both of us by the back of our sweaters causing us to stumble as we followed after him. Sally had run the other way with our jackets. I kept glancing back to make sure she was okay, but every time I did I was jerked forward by Grover and Percy and they worked their way up to the tree. We stopped at a rock and me and Percy quickly turned around to see Sally being chased by the Minotaur as she waved around our jackets.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no-" I heard Percy mumbling as he ran off towards his mom, I quickly followed after him. The Minotaur had knocked her over and was slowly walking over to her. "Mom!" Percy yelled at the same time as I yelled,
"No!" It had left my lips much louder than I expected it to. I covered my mouth in shock when the Minotaur picked her up in one of his giant hands. Percy kept screaming out for her causing the beast to look over at us as he crushed Sally into dust. "No!" I had yelled once again as tears left my eyes, but this time she wasn't here to wipe them away and tell me everything would be okay.
Percy had reached into his pocket and grab the pen that Mr. Brunner had given us what seemed forever ago back at the museum. It turned into a sword once again, but this time it was glowing, lighting up his face, and like the side of mine. I reached into my pocket and grabbed my pen too, it turned into a sword not long after. But mine was glowing a different color than Percy's was, his was glowing a golden color while mine was glowing a dull grey color.
"Percy! Aurora! No!" We heard Grover yell from behind us but we just looked at each other and nodded. I saw the beast run towards us, but I didn't think Percy would fight it head on. He had run straight at the thing.
"Percy!" I yelled after him and followed after him. He had hit the Minotaur with his sword causing both of them to fall to the ground, the beast landing right in front of me, I let out a gasp and took a step backwards. The Minotaur let out a growl as it stood up again, and I saw Percy already running at it once again. He hit it in the horn this time causing it to whip its head around, knocking its other horn straight into me, it sent me flying back into a tree. My head hit the tree, hard. Harder than when I slammed it against the window earlier. My head it the tree so hard it knocked me out. I could hear anything going on around me.
"Are they okay?" I heard an unfamiliar voice ask. My eyes were still closed, I couldn't open them, even if I tried. Many other unfamiliar voice spoke out after that but one caught my attention. It sounded like a girl. "They must be the ones."Was all she said.
"He's waking. Everyone, give him some space, please. Welcome to camp Percy Jackson. We've been expecting you." Was a voice of an older man and it was the last thing I heard before everything turned black again, and I could hear anything anymore. I was left, alone, in the darkness once more.
