The sun eventually did rise the next morning, beckoning the two off the couch. Though, they'd have to untangle themselves first. It was the first time either of them had slept together, or slept with anyone for that matter, but after a few minutes, they were both on their feet again.
Aziraphale went to make hot chocolate for himself and coffee for Crowley. Speaking of Crowley, they trailed closely behind him, almost as if they were scared that if they were to let him leave their sight, he would disappear again and this would've all just been a dream.
They hugged him from behind, their arms moving slowly so as to not startle the angel, who chuckled in amusement as he felt the serpent's arms and leaned into them.
"Breakfast at the Ritz?" Crowley asked, resting their head on Aziraphale's shoulder, hugging him close now.
"I do feel bad as you always pay and I always have the most. You don't even eat and you still pay," Aziraphale sighed, giving Crowley an apologetic look.
"Bah, it doesn't bother me angel, we both know I have more than enough, plus it's not like I can't afford food for myself, I just don't like eating that much." They shrugged and Aziraphale laughed softly.
"You were always more of an alcohol type."
"That I am angel, that I am."The two ended up going to the Ritz for breakfast, listening to a nightingale sing as they walked. It was a peaceful morning, much more peaceful than it had ever been. Maybe this was the universe's or God's way of saying the correct choice had been made. After breakfast, they decided to take a stroll in the park.
They headed over to their bench and were surprised to see Gabriel there, "I figured you both could use the morning to pull yourselves together after last night. I just wanted to inform you both that the deal is officially off - or more so, you win or upheld your side or whatever you'd like to say. I don't feel it's... Fair to try and uphold this deal after Michael's betrayal and deceit, so Heaven and Hell will stay off both of your backs but obviously we have no say in what any other force does." Crowley and Aziraphale nodded.
"Thank you Gabriel, I appreciate that," Aziraphale commented and with that Gabriel left, leaving the two to their own devices. They sat on the park bench and watched the ducks, relaxing against one another.
They were free now and they basked in it. They no longer had Hell or Heaven on their minds, no longer had to pick sides or suffer the consequences. The only side that mattered now was their side.
And they'd take it at their own pace.
Which, for the time being, was very slow. Despite Aziraphale pouring his heart out and Crowley allowing themself to be vulnerable, they both knew they had a long ways to go before they could take another step.
But that was fine by them. They had all eternity to work things out and they didn't have to label it, they could exist the way they had for millennia, just a bit more intimate with no title change. But that discussion would come later. Much later.
For now, they just wanted to exist side by side and feel safe doing so. Which for once in their existence, it seemed like it could be possible. They weren't worried about being caught because there was no one to catch them, so they breathed in the moment of peace.
Aziraphale rested his head on Crowley's shoulder, who wrapped their arm around the angel in response, pulling him closer. The two sat there, enjoying the other's warmth in the cool autumn morning. Crowley wasn't particularly a fan of early mornings or the cooler air but it made their heart swell to see Aziraphale happy and he did particularly enjoy the cool, early morning air around this time of year, and that made it all worth it for them.
Plus, it gave them an excuse to hug Aziraphale as they could make the claim that they were just cold. Not that they thought Aziraphale wouldn't let them hug him otherwise, but Crowley still liked having the excuse anyway.
So the pair sat hugging each other close on the bench as they watched the ducks swim around in the pond across from them. It was peaceful, only a few early birds out and about at this time, and no one spared the two a second glance.
After an hour, they decided to head back to the bookshop, mainly for Crowley's sake as they were starting to shiver. They walked hand in hand, making their way down the street. Aziraphale's gaze shifted up to the clouds, watching as the puffy things rolled by, the wing carrying them in its current.
"Funny to think some humans think heaven's in the clouds." Crowley nudged Aziraphale a bit and chuckled and Aziraphale smiled softly and chortled a bit, giving a nod.
"Humorous indeed." Crowley rolled their eyes a little, playful smirk pulling at the corners of their mouth.
"I said funny, not humorous angel." They teased and Aziraphale playfully elbowed Crowley in the ribs.
"Pardon me for retaining a comprehensive lexicon while you appear to have an abysmal one." Aziraphale laughed at Crowley's bewildered expression.
"Was any of that even English?"
"I can assure you I've only spoken the English dialect, though we both are knowledgeable to a plethora of other dialects. Quiero decir, es parte de nuestra naturaleza divina. Egal für welche Sprache ich mich entscheide, trebao bi me savršeno razumjeti. Dus misschien is het gewoon een gebrek aan woordenschat dat jouw probleem is og ekki það að ég væri að tala tungumál sem þú skildir einhvern veginn ekki." Crowley's head spun at how quickly Aziraphale switched languages. Yes they could understand him, but it still surprised them.
"Pas si tu parlais français, je ne le ferais pas." They quipped back after a moment, a smug smirk on their face and Aziraphale rolled his eyes.
"I chose to learn it the human way, our way, what's wrong with that?" Crowley blushed slightly as Aziraphale called it 'their way' and couldn't come up with a retort. Instead they just chuckled and shook their head.
"You really are somethin' else angel."
