The grey sky paralleled the grey ground, which reflected the grey clouds in the distance. It looked like there was a storm approaching.
Today was Auction Day. It had been a while since the last one, Ena had been counting; 01001111 01101110 01100101 days, to be exact, so to say the two of them were excited would be an understatement. It was luckily a short walk from Ena's abode to the open space that had been selected, and so Moony decided to very passive aggressively join her.
A fair amount of people had shown up this time. Definitely a lot more than the last one, which consisted of Ena, Merci, and two gargoyles who claimed every item they saw (even trying to take Ena, but Merci frightened them away). It seemed as if the crowd was more than ready, bustling with movement and general chitchat amongst themselves. Ena had to leap over most of them, though a big part of her bounds were from excitement. She always loved getting some fresh air, it did her head well, and it was an absolute pleasure to have Moony along this time too!
Moony - "Can't you hurry?! We need to go find a spot!"
... as much of a pleasure as Moony always was. She was very off-putting to most, but Ena had managed to make an impression on her so she stuck around. Good thing she did too, as their friendship had blossomed into an occasionally aggressive and unreadable mess that they were proud to call their own. Beaming, Ena leapt forwards again, placing her hands on her hips and facing the mob in front of them.
Ena - "Ahh, auction day. These are the utmost grand of days! This is going to be so, so-!"
But then, of course, her spirits had to be ruined.
What if something terrible happened here?
What if she got lost? Or if Moony got lost?
What if the deals weren't even worth anything?
As she spiralled, Ena physically spiralled and turned black and white, beating her head rhythmically while sobbing to herself.
Ena - "Awful! I think this is going to be the worst day of my life!"
Moony didn't seem to care much, looking past Ena's freak-out and into the crowd as well.
Moony - "Woah, look at the crowd today, Ee-na! Everyone's ugly..."
Classic Moony. Ena thought it wouldn't do her much harm to be a little nicer, but Moony always claimed that it was Ena who was too nice and this world was too difficult to be too friendly within. It dragged the mood a little, so Ena tried to lighten it when they hung out together.
Moony - "Today's item must be super special! What do you think it is?"
Ena - "Why would I know?! I'm too stupid to even imagine anything..."
As quickly as it started, Ena's sobbing stopped. She flashed into static, spun around a little more, and returned to her usual yellow and blue. Groaning to herself, Ena stood up a little disorientated.
Ena - "Argh! Sincerest apologies."
Apologies were cut short however; in the distance, a large floating platform produced a large VHS tape, which then produced arms, which then produced a puppet, which was then connected to the large VHS tape via some sort of umbilical cord. This brought the puppet to life immediately.
Auctioneer - "ALRIGHT, Y'ALL! Welcome to the Daily Auctioning! Sooie soooooieeee! Yeah, all of your existential troubles will go away soon, okay?"
Ah, existentialism! A commonplace problem of this strange land that Ena called home. It was often she found herself and others questioning what this place even was, or what they were, why there was no logic, routine, or rules of any sorts, and what their grander purpose was. For most people, in fact, this was a daily if not hourly occurrence. Unlike everyone else, however, Ena didn't just let this happen and move on with her life. She had pumped countless hours into trying her best to explain what could be explained here. And, believe it or not, she had come to no conclusion. Moony mentioned the Great Runas appearing soon, which could possibly lead to an answer, but that was a fraction of an opportunity that Ena doubted she could even hold. No way could she of all people make it to the Great Runas.
