CHAPTER FOUR: RUN FOR YOUR LIVES
FEAR STREET 1994 — ACT 01.4

Hopping out of the car, they followed Deena's lead to the local hospital where Sam is currently admitted as an inpatient. They entered the premise and headed straight to the front desk which had a female nurse in-charge of tonight's shift. She seems intensely preoccupied with her nails. Deena stood in front of her and ringing the bell twice only to be handed with a hospital admission form.

"Fill these out and take a seat." The nurse told her.

"No, I'm just visiting." Pushing the clipboard back to the nurse.

"Visiting hours ends at nine." replied nurse nonchalantly. Deena seems likely to blow a fuse any second now. Toby who was busy playing with Kate's hands had to let go of the warmth as Kate decided to take over. He couldn't help to let out a small pout.

Clearing her throat, she requests for one personnel. "Tell Nurse Beddy she has a patient."

Few minutes later, footsteps emerge from the empty hall. A man in pink scrub suit appears with a stethoscope hang on his neck and a nameplate with a carved letter B on Eddy atop of his uniform. "Beddy. Long time, how you been?" Toby greeted, a smile formed on his face. Kate stood next to him.

"See you still toting around with this moron." Beddy points over Simon.

"They can't quit me, Beddy. I'm too pretty!" Simon chimes in only for Beddy to scoff.

"Listen, we need your assistance." Kate immediately went on for the purpose of their presence in the hospital.

"I'm sure that you do, but there's happens to be a new security protocol. We kept coming up short on blueberries and bananas. So now I need a special key—"

"I need to see a patient." Deena interjected, growing more and more impatient. Beddy takes her to Sam's patient ward and the rest were left behind at the front desk.

Josh went to Toby and Kate with a confused expression drawn out on his face, "Blueberries and bananas?" He asked.

"Oh, it's just Vicodin and Percocet." Toby answered.

Kate taps Toby's arm. "You want anything frrom the machine? I'm starving." She said. The young Smith look over the vending machine down the hall before agreeing to Kate.

They all accompanied Kate to the vending machine and the only girl in the group inspects her options. Sticking her hand out to Simon she motions for some cash. "Yo, Si-Money. Cash me."

"Don't look at me, dude. I'm... I'm... I'm broke." Simon replied.

She turns her gaze to Toby with optimistic. The boy quickly checks his pockets and wallets but to no avail he failed to find one. "Sorry." Toby scratched the back of his head.

Lastly, she asked Josh. "You got any change?"

"Oh, um. Let me check." Josh peeks over and insert his hand on his pocket to find some change but just like Simon and Toby, he have nothing on him. "Um... Uh... Uh, no." Josh stuttered. "Uh, but I..." The youngest step forward to the machine and pushes some buttons.

They watched him with curiosity and with a final digit the machine started to whir on its own, one by one the chocolates inside the machine were all pushed down. With a proud look, Josh confidently crossed his arms to the trio. "What do you want?"

Toby's jaw slightly dropped out of amazement. "Man, you're a fucking wizard."

All four of them took a handful of chocolates from the vending machine, Toby mainly grabbed those Nestle Crunch bars and slid some of them inside the pockets of his windbreaker jacket. Now, they're all munching the snacks they got for free, all thanks to Josh. "Dude, where did you learn how to do this?" Toby asked as he gave Kate a twix bar.
