prologue

*3rd person, reader is 9*

The  breeze blew gently through the cracked window,  gently kissing (y/n)'s face , sirring her awake. She gently rubbed her eyes as she sat up, taking in the familiar surroundings around her. (Y/n) looked out the window, in taking the beautiful swirls of color that brushed against the sky, the mess of red and blue that painted it as the sun hugs the horizon.  She smiled, the morning had began a new day, something of wonder to come to her as her imagination would take flight. The steps of people made her get out of bed as she realized that her parents had came home, better yet with a surprise. She flung herself out of her room and down the stairs  to meet her parents as if she hadn't seen them in years. Lunging at her father, who had caught her in his arm, hugged her tight as giggles filled the air. "papa, mama, i missed you  guys! what happened? you left in a hurry..."  She said with a sad tone in her voice, naturally when they leave they would be back in a few hours, but not gone all night. " well, you know that surprise we kept telling you about?" The older man asked the energetic bundle, setting her down and keeling to her level. (y/n) quickly nodded her head as stars of wonder filled her eyes with excitement. The two of them turned their direction to the  older women that stood there, patiently, while holding something small in a blanket? She unwrapped the blanket around what it was and gently kneeled down to the little girls level. What was it? a dog? cat? a toy? something for her? or for them? 

Gently and carefully, she moved to her mother and leaned to see what it might be. It wasn't till little hands had moved their way to her face, she realized what it was. A baby. A small life force that made its way here, to them, to her. It, was her little brother. (y/n)'s face filled with happiness and her face beamed. "What's his name mama?" She gently let him grab her finger as she cooed to him. "His name is Edward honey. And you're his big sister." Sister? That's right, big sister. With every being in her body, it took all she had not to coddle him and just hold him, to take care of him. That's all she would do, all she wanted to do, to take care of him. To hold him. To love him. "Hello Edward, i'm your big sister (y/n)."

*1 year later (reader is 10 and ed is 1)* ;)

(Y/n) was playing in the house with Ed when their parents were out and about. They had put their trust in (y/n) to take of Ed since, she has been so protective of him. She had made sure that ed was having fun, was feed and took his afternoon nap. Her parents sure would be proud of her when they realizes that she could help out and take care of ed when they needed a hand. She was proud of herself more than anything, Ed, didn't have a tantrum so far.  (y/n) looked at the clock that hung on the wall above her as she looked at the door. It was getting late in the day and she hasn't seen them in a few hours, she was getting worried. She looked back at Ed who was asleep on the couch, he still had 20 minutes and she had no idea on what to do. 

Quietly she walked to her father's study, creaking open the door she looked around curiously. She was never allowed in here and she always wondered why, so while she had some time she snooped. Carefully not to disturb any papers or books that were around her she looked, quietly looking over the papers and reading. Most of the stuff was jumbled to her but a few things caught her eyes, one of them being, alchemy. The  amount of times she saw the word itself and the circles on the paper only made her curiosity grow. Before she could even read anymore on the desk she heard tiny foot steps stomp down the hall. "(Y/n)?..." Ed's sleepy voice echoed in the almost empty house. Quickly she left the study, closing  the door as most as she could before scooping ed in her arms. He smiled and giggled as he was reunited with her again. "Where go?" He yawned and rubbing his eyes, (y/n)'s heart squeezed when she saw him. She loved Ed so much and wanted nothing more that to keep him happy. "Sissy go potty bubs, you still sleepy?" She smiled when Ed shook his head no quickly and laid his head on her shoulder. taking that as a maybe she decided to just go outside to play.
