Truly, it was your empathy that was your undoing.
Your niceness never got you anything good. Not when you were a kid, not when you were in junior high, and definitely not now that you're in highschool, now working part-time in customer service.
And now your niceness has granted you the overwhelming feeling of someone constantly staring you down and the unwanted attention of the campus' resident pretty boy, named Gojo Satoru.
Ever since you lifted up his spirits after a you found him sulking in an empty classroom, he's been bothering you ever since, bringing you flowers and letters and all kinds of expensive sweets.
You don't care. You just want to paint in peace. Is that so much to ask for?
You sigh for the third time that hour as you see crimson-red roses in taped to your easel along with a thick envelope. You hear hear you best friend giggling, and begin to feel a few envious stares.
Oh, how you wish your and Satoru's after-school times were different. You see him enough in school already.
"Another declaration of love from Romeo?" Your best friend, Ieiri Shoko, teased.
You sigh, "Koko, please.."
An underclassman of yours, and dear friend, Iori Utahime, looks away from her easel, a serious expression painting over her face, "Huh? Is he bothering you, senpai? I can tell him off for you if you like!"
You and Shoko chuckle, amused by the idea, but you waved her off, "No, no. No need. Then he'll know that I care about these things."
"Isn't that a bit too mean, Star-chan?" Shoko said as she pulls out a few watercolors, "he really likes you, doesn't he?"
You scoff, pulling the flowers and the envelope off your easel, "As if. 'S jus' some first year messin' around. He'll get bored eventually. "
Shoko gives you a look.
"Yeah, Shoko-senpai. You've heard the rumors about him haven't you?" Utahime spoke lowly, as if Satoru could somehow hear the conversation.
"Yeah, but they could be just that—rumors." Shoko said, giving you another look.
You shrug. You weren't keen on judging someone based of evidentless gossip.
"Whatever. Doesn't really matter, does it? 'S not like I'm gonna date 'im."
Shoko simply sighs, shakes her head, and turns back to her easel.

"Senpai! Starlight-senpaii!!"
You sigh as you hear that familiar voice call out to you. You stop walking and turn, Shoko and Utahime following suit, the former looking mildly amused, and the latter looking annoyed on your behalf.
The white-haired boy runs up to you, his best friend, Geto Suguru, walking calmly behind him, with a languid smile. He nods at Shoko and she nods back.
"Hello, Geto-san, Gojo-san." You say, bowing to both of them respectively.
Gojo pouts, poking your cheek, "I told you to call me Satoru."
You ignore and address Suguru, "how have you been, Geto-san?"
His smile turns into a smirk, "Call me Suguru."
You sigh for what feels like the tenth time that hour, "Not you too."
Suguru chuckles, "Anyways, I should be heading home. Shoko, Utahime!" As he said their names, he rung his arms around their shoulders, "why don't we walk together? We all go in the same direction."
Shoko catches on and shrugs, "Sure."
Utahime, not so much, "Huh? No, we do—"
"I'll treat you to ice-cream later, go with it." Suguru whispers in her ear.
Utahime shuts her mouth. She's all for free ice-cream.
You, on the other hand, don't catch on in time, "..hold on a minute—"
"See you tomorrow, senpai!" Utahime said as the trio disappeared from sight.
You watch in disbelief and betrayal as your friends just..leave you here. With Satoru.
Who, speaking of which, is smiling widely. Bastard had a plan and got your best friend, his best friend, and your precious underclassman in on it.
"Senpai."
"Yes, Satoru?"
"Would you like to walk together?"
"....yes, Satoru."
Ignoring your exasperated sigh, Satoru offers to carry your bags. Might as well, you think to yourself, and you hand him your bags.
It was oddly quiet as you both began to walk. You half-expected Satoru to talk your ear off, but no. Just judging from the way he's smiling and the color of his pale cheeks, he seems to elated just by the thought of being in your presence.
...cute.
You chuckle and Satoru jumps. "Wh-What's wrong?"
You shake your head, "Nothing, nothing."
"...did you open it?"
"Huh?"
"The envelope? Did you open it?"
Oh.
"Uhhh.."
Did you even grab it?
"Well.."
Is it still in the clubroom?
"You see..."
Satoru lets out a huff that sounded like a laugh, "don't worry, it's fine. It was just junk anyways."
You let out a breath of relief, God, did you feel like an absolute asshole for a second.
Satoru then stopped walking for a second, causing you to pause as well, "Sa—Gojo-san?" You cringe at your near slip-up.
Gojo looks at you, "hey, um, what's your favorite type of chocolate?"
You look at him weirdly, "..regular milk chocolate, why?"
He opens his mouth, then closes it, then shakes his head, "no reason." He said, smiling.
....right.
"Anyway, this is where we part, senpai." He said, handing you your stuff. You nod, "uh-huh."
"See you tomorrow, senpai!" He exclaimed as you already begin walking in the other direction.
"See you!" You wave.
Yeah, empathy's overrated.
