Weeks turned into months, and the weight of my financial predicament only grew heavier. Every time I met Alex, he offered the same promise: "We'll work together to solve your problem, Max." But it seemed those words were mere echoes, vanishing into the void of unfulfilled commitments.

We'd sit in the same cramped classroom, the world moving on around us, while Alex's assurances remained unfulfilled. In the beginning, I'd believed him. Hope had danced before my eyes like a tantalizing mirage, but it was slowly withering away.

One day, as the bell rang to signal the end of another monotonous class, I approached Alex with a growing sense of frustration. "Alex, you've been saying we'd work on this together, but nothing has happened. I'm running out of time, man."

He looked genuinely contrite, a frown creasing his brow. "I know, Max. It's just that things have been crazy for me lately. Exams, family stuff, you know how it is."

I knew all too well. Life had a way of piling on responsibilities and distractions. Still, the promise was the promise, and I was becoming desperate.

"Alex, I appreciate your support, but if we don't act soon, I might have to drop out," I said, my voice trembling with the fear of a bleak future.

His eyes filled with guilt, but he couldn't offer more than hollow reassurances. "I promise, Max, we'll find a solution. Just give me a little more time."

But time was precisely what I didn't have. The sand in the hourglass was running out, and I could feel the walls closing in. Alex's empty assurances were starting to sound like a broken record, and I couldn't help but wonder if he was just another pawn in the intricate game that The Hourglass Theory had set into motion.
