I sat in an endless space, a completely empty void.. There was nothing there, no light, no sound, no touch.. just me. I looked down and saw that I was standing on something, although I could not see it. The ground felt hard and smooth, like it was made out of glass. The area around me was pitch black and empty, as if it was just an endless plane.
I wondered, why was I here? And who was I? I didn't remember anything. Nothing at all. No memories of my family, my friends, my past. My mind was blank.
"Hello? Is anybody there?" I asked into the empty abyss. My voice did not echo, it simply disappeared into the nothingness.
"Anyone?"
Suddenly, a flash of white light appeared above me and then dissipated, revealing a figure standing atop a large floating dragon-like skull. The skeletal figure peered down at me, a stain of pity in their eyes. The skull seemed to dissipate into smoke and Al the figure landed on his feet on the ground in front of me—hugging me swiftly...
"Oh Y/n... I missed you so much..." I blinked a few times, confused by his words. Y/n... that was my name..?
Then one memory faded into light... I teared up slightly, returning the hug quickly as the memory of my death had came back... and Cross swore he'd bring me back... and he did.
And now I was back in the world, in the arms of the skeletal monster...
"Cross...!" I said, hugging him back. He was here. He had kept his promise and brought me back. He had always kept his promises to me, no matter how absurd or dangerous they may be.
"You did it Cross... I'm so proud of you..." I whispered.
He held me closer to him and began to cry a little. He was happy. "I promised, didn't I? I'm so happy you're back..."
I smiled and closed my eyes, enjoying his warm embrace.
I slowly pulled away from him, looking up at him with a soft smile. "How long have I been gone...?"
He took a deep breath. "I'm not sure... but it felt like an eternity."
I nodded slowly, trying to understand the situation. My mind was still fuzzy, and I couldn't think properly.
"Do you remember what happened...?" Cross asked me.
I closed my eyes again and concentrated. My memories were still hazy, but they slowly became clearer and clearer. I recalled the events that had taken place just before my death.
"It's all a blur..." I muttered, shaking my head.
Cross frowned. "What's the last thing you remember?"
"We were fighting Dream and the rest of hi s group . You and I were outnumbered. And then... " I shuddered slightly "Then I accidentally jumped in the way of an arrow..." I frowned slightly, trying to piece the memory together.
"After that... it's just darkness."
He sighed. "I'm sorry..."
I looked up at him, confused. "Sorry for what?"
"I couldn't protect you... I failed you... and for that, I'm sorry."
I shook my head. "You didn't fail me, Cross. It wasn't your fault. I chose to jump in the way."
He didn't reply, instead hugging me tightly again.
"I'm just glad you're okay..." I mumbled, resting my head on his chest.
We stood there for a moment, enjoying each other's company. After a while, Cross pulled away.
"Come on, let's get you back home." He said, picking me up bridal style and in a flash of white light I found us in the living room of nightmares castle.
