Zoe Lawson P.O.V.
I had confided in my close friends and classmates, Francesca and Jocasta, revealing the tangled mess that had become my life. Theodore had even tried to communicate with them, particularly Francesca, trying to make sense of the chaos. Despite their support, I couldn't shake the feeling that they were merely indulging my desperate plea, knowing deep down that my decision was fraught with complications. The weight of my own deceit pressed heavily on my mind, leaving me adrift and uncertain.
"You are getting an abortion," Theo's voice cut through the heavy silence with the sharpness of a blade. His command was a cold, suffocating force, extinguishing any shred of normalcy we had left.
I shook my head defiantly, refusing to be swayed by his coercion. "We had an agreement," He reminded me. He referred to the pact where I had insisted that if I decided to terminate the pregnancy, he would need to support me financially and refrain from dating others until I was fully healed. He had signed it, yet the very idea now felt absurd.
Though the agreement had been my own creation, its ridiculousness was undeniable. It couldn't be enforced, and all I truly wanted was for him to deal with the anxiety and leave me in peace.
"Just let me be. You wouldn't even know if it would survive," I pleaded, my words a desperate attempt to steer him away from the topic. I kept repeating this point, hoping he would grasp that there might not be a baby to worry about.
"Don't bullshit me; I know your species carries strong genes," Theo said matter-of-factly. His knowledge of my supposed species added a surreal layer to an already bizarre situation.
"You don't have to. I will disappear from your life," I declared, my desperation making me willing to vanish into obscurity. This was more than the unreal circumstances I had created; it was a desperate bid to reclaim control from the chaos I had unleashed.
"I will not be an absent father," he countered, his words bewildering me further. An absent father? He didn't even want to be a father!
"I don't want to see you again," I asserted, my hatred bubbling to the surface like a volatile potion. The intensity of my emotions felt like a boiling cauldron of resentment and pain.
"I hate you," I confessed, the words escaping my lips before I could rein them in.
"Not more than I hate myself," Theo admitted, his vulnerability briefly shattering my anger. His self-loathing was a raw and unexpected revelation, adding another layer to the complex emotions swirling between us.
"I would never forgive you," I declared, the weight of betrayal pressing heavily on my heart.
"I don't expect you to. Even if you did, I wouldn't forgive myself for what I'm doing to you," he acknowledged, his admission echoing the self-destructive nature of the path we had chosen. The room, once a witness to our love, now held the echoes of our shared misery.
As his plea lingered in the air, the room felt like a battlefield of conflicting emotions. "Look, you would be a wonderful mother. However, just don't be mine," he implored, his words cutting through the air like a knife.
His request struck me like a thunderbolt, a bewildering mix of betrayal and heartbreak. How could he say such things? Even though the pregnancy was a fabrication, the pain I felt resonated with the depth of any expecting woman. I had always dreamed of becoming a mother, of bearing his children.
"I dreamt of days when you would teach our son how to play tennis," I confessed, laying bare my deepest desires. His admission that he too had envisioned a future with me only intensified my confusion.
Yet, the more I sought answers, the more elusive they became. If he had shared the same dreams, why was our connection not worth fighting for? The realization hit me hard—his love for me did not match mine for him, and the bond we shared was not powerful enough to bridge the gap.
