ARTICLE TITLE: Being a New Student SUCKS! Surviving Your First Day at a New School

DRAFTED TEXT: Personally, I've only had to change schools mid-year only once in my life. If I had to rate it as an experience, it would be almost next to my parents' divorce, though that's a different topic. Walking into a new school is like walking into a war zone, one you're unfamiliar with, one where there are no allies. The moment you walk into the new classroom with your head down, it's over for you, you have become a target.

''We have a new student. Bum Seok, say hi to your classmates.''

The boy in the front shuffled on his feet for a moment. He gave two minimal nods and spoke. ''Hi, I'm Oh Bum Seok.''

Cheers erupted through the classroom, mostly from the back. Upon turning around, Y/n noticed Yeong Bin had been the instigator, looking straight at the new boy. Pursing her lips, Y/n deducted he was rather assessing his new target.

''Be nice to Bum Seok, okay?''

If only it was that easy.

During the break later in the day, Y/n walked back towards the classroom with her Eyn Hye and On Jo, hanging in the back as she held on her coke with one hand, her phone in the other. She didn't mind whatever her friends were conversing about, opting to switch between scrolling through her feed and opening the search bar before going back to her feed.

''Why are you guys so chatty these days? Someone's trying to sleep here.''

Y/n looked up from her phone at that, realizing they'd made it to the classroom. Soo Ho laid on his pillow as he looked over to Si Eun standing in front of Young Bin and his friends.

''Can I sleep in peace? Please?'' Soo Ho asked, his voice groggy and tired.

Y/n stayed back as On Jo and Eun Hye continued to their seats, watching as Young Bin muttered something to Si Eun before the three went back to their own seats.

Once the commotion was over, Y/n looked down at Soo Ho, moving to stand next to his desk. She bit the inside of her cheek, willing herself to open her mouth. ''You should rest better at home, Soo Ho.''

The boy opened his eyes again, though they remained squinted as he looked up at her. A small smile stretched on his lips. ''Hey, cutie.''

Y/n flicked his head. ''I told you to stop calling me that, dumbass.''

''Hey!'' Soo Ho whined as he rubbed the sore spot. ''I have a nice nickname for you, you gotta think of a better one for me.''

''That wasn't a nickname, it was a descriptive,'' Y/n said.

He chuckled. ''Don't be mean. Let me sleep.''

Looking at the free chair in front of his desk, Y/n bravely plopped down and put her bottle on his desk, leaning on the back of the chair. ''Why are you always so tired?'' She thought back to last night and lowered her voice. ''Is it because you work?''

''Hm.'' He confirmed. ''I usually work until late and I want to keep my attendance perfect, so I just come and sleep here because I can't oversleep that way.'' His eyes closed and voice muffled as he spoke; almost as if he was going to fall asleep again at any second.

''I see.'' She didn't pry further. There must be a reason why he had to work until so late so often, one that could be personal. They weren't that at level yet, and Y/n wasn't sure if they ever will, but she didn't want to bother him. ''I'll let you be, then. Sweet dreams or whatever.''

''Thanks, cutie.''

Y/n flicked his head again before she walked away, though the corner of her lips tugged up just a bit.
