ARTICLE TITLE: Dealing With Loss, Except The Person Isn't Really Gone

DRAFTED TEXT: Grief is an odd thing. Someone dear to me was hurt not too long ago, and he hasn't been responsive since. He's not dead, but he's not really here, either. I miss him, even though I see him every day. But he's unmoving, he doesn't talk, to can't see. He's asleep, and I don't know when he'll wake up. But I know he will, one day. Because if he doesn't, I don't know what I'd do with myself. It's all my fault. (do not post this)

Y/n was sure she was going to fail her finals. And, right now, she couldn't even bring herself to care.

She sat on her desk, anxiously staring at her computer screen, where a math explanation video was running. The woman was explaining an equation she was struggling with and that she should be trying to understand, but Y/n couldn't.

Her phone was propped on her water bottle, her attention on it as it displayed Soo Ho's live location. He was still moving, and Y/n wasn't sure where he was going.

A ringing in her ears startled her. Young Yi's contact photo appeared on Y/n's screen, covering Soo Ho's location. She scrambled to pick up the call, pausing the video on her laptop and putting the phone to her ear.

''Young Yi?''

''Hey, Y/n.''

''You've been avoiding me and Soo Ho for days and that's all you can manage?'' Y/n said, suddenly feeling anger bubbling inside of her. ''What the hell? Why wouldn't you tell us that Si Eun got beaten up and was in a hospital? Or that that beating was supposed to be for Soo Ho?''

''I know that was wrong of us, but Si Eun didn't want you guys to know,'' Young Yi said, then continued before Y/n could rebute her. ''But that's not what I'm calling for. Have you talked with Soo Ho?''

''He was just here twenty minutes ago and told me about what you guys have been hiding,'' Y/n explained, leaning back in her chair. ''Why?''

''I'm starting to get worried. He didn't come to work and now he's not answering his phone.''

''He said he was going to do something and that I should trust him before he left. I'm . . . assuming he went to talk to Bum Seok.'' Y/n said, removing her phone from her ear and putting it on speaker so she can open the location sharing app again. ''I've been tracking his location since he left. He just stopped. He's at a . . . boxing club?''

There was a moment of silence. Then, Y/n's blood ran cold at Young Yi's words. ''Y/n . . . the guy Bum Seok paid to beat up Soo Ho is a boxer.''

A boxer. Bum Seok had hired a boxer to beat up Soo Ho, and he was probably meeting with them right now, if not with Bum Seok's minions as well. And he's not answering his phone and he's alone and—

''Oh my fucking god, how could I let him go?'' Y/n quickly got up from her chair, grabbing a jacket. ''Young Yi, oh my God, what have I done?''

''Y/n, where—''

''I'll call you back.''

Y/n ended the call, her blood running cold. She felt like she was about to throw up as she ran out of her room, quickly putting on her shoes. There were questions from her mother and step-father, but she ignored them, rushing out of the apartment.

She made it to the elevator, already dialing the number for a taxi. She kept pressing on the button, but the elevator wouldn't move from the ninth floor. ''Fuck this.'' She quickly ran towards the stairs, sprinting down them as her call was finally picked. ''Hello, please, I need a taxi immediately!''
