ARTICLE TITLE: Friendships — How Do They Work?

DRAFTED TEXT: I love my friends. I wouldn't say I have many, but the ones I do have are amazing. I would do anything for them — but how do they see me? Do they see me as a friend? Or as a bother? What's his problem?

It was dark by the time they made it to the karaoke place they'd gone a few days ago. Y/n wrapped Soo Ho's jacket closer to herself as she walked next to him, her right hand in his left one, fingers intertwined. Si Eun and Bum Seok walked behind them and no one really spoke until they finally stopped in front of the building.

''These guys are always at the karaoke,'' Soo Ho said. ''Don't they ever study?''

Y/n looked at him, her eyebrows furrowed. ''Says who?''

''You can't talk,'' Si Eun added as he passed by him, making Y/n chuckle.

Bum Seok came to stand next to Soo Ho. Wrapping an arm around his shoulders as usual, Soo Ho spoke. ''Don't be scared. You're with us.'' Bum Seok gave him a look, then he looked back at Y/n; then his eyes dropped down to Y/n and Soo Ho's hands. With that, he looked ahead and pushed off Soo Ho's hand, walking ahead.

Y/n opened her mouth to question his behavior, but she closed it quickly. Now wasn't the time for that. Maybe she was seeing things — she would talk about it with Soo Ho later.

They walked in the karaoke and found the room Bum Seok's bullies occupied. Bum Seok stopped in front of the door. It took him a moment before he dared walk in, the rest following.

''Bum Seok!'' one of them said. The music stopped and all eyes were on Bum Seok.

''Oh Bum!''

''Bum Seok!''

''Did you bring friends, Bum Seok?''

Soo Ho and Y/n's hands separated as they walked further in. It was hard to breathe due to the smoke and it was quite chilly — she wasn't sure if it was because of the temperature or because of the anxiety — so she pulled the jacket closer and crossed her arms. She stopped right between Soo Ho and Bum Seok.

''This place stinks of cigarette smoke,'' Soo Ho said.

One of them, the leader as it seemed, let out a dry chuckle. ''What's this?''

''Apologize,'' Bum Seok said, though his voice was quiet, wavering, uncertain. He only received a confused look from the boy. ''I told you to apologize,'' Bum Seok repeated, this time a notch more confident.

The four bullies burst into laughter. ''Did you hear that?''

The ringleader gestured to Bum Seok, a smile still present on his face. ''What are you talking about?''

''Apologize for what you did to me,'' Bum Seok said again, this time much more confident.

I know he's my friend and all, but if I was the bullies, I wouldn't really take him seriously, either. I feel like he should've just tried to beat some sense into them with our help. She didn't believe situations should be solved with violence, but this one was an exception. Those boys were scumbags and they deserved a good beating, in her opinion. Still, she didn't speak, didn't move, not wanting to take away Bum Seok's spotlight.
