''What did they demand as they protested? That's the important part.''
Y/n looked at her phone under her desk as the teacher talked, her words going in one ear and right out the other. Whatever was being in class at the moment wasn't important, not when Si Eun still hadn't even opened her messages. There were a few lines, underneath a 'delivered' message that made her want to throw her phone against the wall. She looked up, right at Si Eun's empty seat.
Neither she or Soo Ho had heard of him ever since he left Soo Ho's party and never came back the day before. According to Soo Ho, Young Yi hadn't made it home the night before and she hadn't answered to any of Y/n's calls or messages, making her fear the worst.
''Hey, wake him up.''
Y/n lifted her head, her eyes falling on Soo Ho who was, as usual, sleeping on his pink pillow.
The boy who'd sat in front of him shook his arm. ''Wake up, Ahn Soo Ho.''
Soo Ho slowly got up, ignoring whatever the teacher was saying. He looked towards Y/n, catching her eyes before mustering a weak, tired smile. But Y/n knew he was thinking about Si Eun, about whatever had happened on his birthday. Neither of them understood and it was starting to get frustrating.
Y/n watched as Soo Ho's gaze moved to Si Eun's empty seat, then to the back. Y/n followed, realizing that Bum Seok's seat remained vacant, too.
Her phone vibrated in her lap and she jumped, looking down. A notification greeted her. Something came up in my family, so I won't be coming to school for a while, it said.
Y/n got to typing quickly, hoping he hadn't put away his phone already. If you need anything, you know Soo Ho and I are here for you, right?
It took a moment before his reply came in. I know. Thank you.
Y/n picked up her math notebook and moved over to On Jo's desk once the break started, pulling up a chair next to her desk. She slammed her notebook on the desk, open exactly on the problem she was struggling with. ''Please put your brains to use and explain this to me.'' The mere thought that the words 'one day until the exam' were written on the board behind her sent shivers down her spine. With all the drama, she's rarely found time to study in the last few weeks.
On Jo chuckled and got to work explaining, writing over Y/n's notes with a pencil to explain it better. Y/n had been intently listening until she caught Soo Ho getting up from his desk from the corner of her eye, wacthing him as he moved over to Jeong Chan and Tae Hoon. Y/n sat up straighter, her attention moving to their conversation immediately.
''Why isn't Oh Bum Seok coming to school?'' Soo Ho asked, his hands in his pants' pockets. He was oddly calm.
''I don't know,'' Jeong Chan said immediately.
''Didn't you try calling him?'' Soo Ho continued. ''You guys are close.''
''His phone was off. Do you know anything?'' Jeong Chan asked, shifting on his feet as he looked at Teo Hoon. Tae Hoon was scratching carelessly on his neck, but he didn't seem amused at the situation, either. He shook his head.
''If you reach him, tell him to pay for the repair fee,'' Soo Ho said.
''Yeah, okay . . .'' Jeong Chan trailed off, looking at Soo Ho. ''What? What repair fee?''
Soo Ho, with no emotion on his face, lifted his hand and slapped Jeong Chan across the head. Y/n straightened up in her seat, ready to get up and help him if needed. That seemed to catch On Jo's attention, who stopped explaining and looked back as well.
