Callum knew the feeling of not treating somebody as close as you should've, so when he read the letter that his step-father wrote to him before he was assasinated, he cried. Well and truly harder than he had ever cried in his entire life. More than when his own biological father had passed away, and that felt wrong.
Nothing about crying more over someone you only spent half your years with, rather than someone who was with you for the entirety of your life up until their death was right. It felt... scary. It IS scary how fast you can get attached to someone. He wanted to tell Ezran, but he couldn't bring himself to snatch away his little brothers joy the same way his was when he read that letter.
He was currently sitting below the deck of a ship, Ruthless. The name was a little bit scary, until you realise that it's just named after the captains wife, who isn't dead; she just doesn't like sailing. 'Maybe she has a fear or bodied water like Rayla?'
Bait groaned beside Callum. ''Hey Bait. Sorry, I bet I look ridiculous right now, huh?'' he asked. Bait just turned grey and snuggled up closer to Callum. He smiled. Bait hasn't been too happy since Zym hatched. He keeps getting pushed away by Ezran whenever he tries to get the same love and attention that he did when Azymondias was still an egg.
Callum couldn't talk to animals like Ez could, but he understood the way that Bait felt right now. Harrow never really treated Callum as his real son. He wasn't his real son, but it hurt because he never really felt like a real part of the family.
In the letter from Harrow, he told Callum how much he regretted not treating Callum as if he were closer. He said how he thought the space was what he needed after his biological dad died. Callum understood his point of view, but he couldn't help but be angry at his step-father for writing that and then getting himself assassinated.
