The Red-Headed Mute

Chapter 4

7.08 AM, Monday.

I slowly walked into the shop and watched as Ally scurried over to me.

"Ariana! You're late!" said Ally, "... Wattpad again? Ariana, don't get caught up in your books!"

Luckily, she knows sign language from her best friend, who was also mute.

...BUT IT WAS SO GOOD! I explained to Ally. She didn't care. She dragged me behind the counter and ordered me to start working.

...And it was 7am, so not many customers! I had the Wattpad app on my iPhone, so while Ally finished tidying up,I held my iPhone under the counter and read.

"Excuse me? Aren't you supposed to be working?" said a customer, which happened to be a customer who came to this shop everyday.

I nodded, mouthed 'Sorry' and motioned to them, hoping they get the idea that I'm asking them what they want.

"... The normal." said the customer.

I quickly gave them their coffee and watched as they drank it, gave the money and left.

12.00 PM, Monday.

It was the end of my shift, and after happily serving hundreds of customers, I needed a rest.

When I arrived home, I ran into my room and took my phone out of my pocket to check my notifications. No one had messaged me, not even Rosy.

I was bored, so I decided to message Rosy. I sent her a simple 'hi'.

Minutes later, Rosy messaged me back asking if I had finished work. She knew what the answer to that was, so I simply wrote:

'seriously?' and quickly sent it.

After ten minutes of reading on Wattpad, Rosy hadn't messaged back so I figured her ten-minute break from work was over.

I was bored, so I did the usual thing I like to do when I'm bored: shop for shoes!
