"Jesus, you have serious attachment issues," Cam sighed into his notebook. Iseul gave him a stern look; Cam looked up from the notes he was copying and shrugged. "You gave in easily to him. First sign." he tsked; Iseul rolled her eyes. She looked at the words in the textbook but couldn't seem to make sense of any of them. Her head pounded with the thought of Lee Yungyu.
"You have time to cancel on him; I don't mind being your getaway car! We could eat Chipotle again... scream, cry at the TV..." Iseul slammed the textbook in front of her shut, making Cam quiet. "Welp, your offers are a bit late." She nodded toward Yungyu, who had just entered the library. His hair was messy, and he had a lost look. Cam sucked in a breath, "I wish you luck. I'll get the Chipotle and pick you up after," he said, grabbing his things and leaving the table.
"Hi Cam!" Yungyu stated, holding a fist up for Cam. Cam scrunched his eyebrows, "Izzy's over there." he nodded to the table tucked into a quiet corner of the library. Yungyu gave an embarrassed nod and walked quickly. He sat down; Iseul pulled out the science textbook from her bag and a set of flashcards with various formulas written on them.
"Thank you for this-" Iseul cut him off quickly. "It's whatever," she said coldly. Yungyu swallowed his words and let out a breath. "Can I see your notes?" she asked; Yungyu's face paled. "Notes?" Iseul closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "You didn't take notes, did you?" she said, seeing Yungyu's green notebook with various doodles. Yungyu laughed nervously, "I'll take some tomorrow," he said, smiling. Iseuls's glare softened, and she nodded—the pen she held was close to exploding from her grip.
Within the first thirty minutes of studying, it felt like a lot of back and forth for Iseul. She picked up the flashcards. "You didn't decorate them," Yungyu mumbled, thinking back to the flashcards she had decorated for him once before. "Don't." she said calmly, "I'm here to help you, not be your friend." She winced internally at her words. Deep down, she knew all she wanted was to reach out to him. Yungyu nodded and answered the question written neatly on the card. Iseul nodded, "no, kiss?" Yungyu snorted. Iseul slammed the cards down.
"Why am I doing this? I was so stupid to take you seriously for a chance." She growled, shoving her stuff into her backpack. "I have work anyways." Yungyu winced, knowing he crossed the line. "Iseul, look I'm sorry i shouldve-" iseul cut him off quickly slinging her backpack over her shoulder. "I'm not wasting my time on you like I did this summer." She practically stomped out of the library. Yungyu groaned and slumped into his chair. "Jesus, you are so stupid," he said, rubbing his face.
Something Iseul had always been good at was words. Whether it was lifting you up or to make you feel like the biggest piece of shit, she was always good at it. There was no denying it. Yungyu grabbed his bag and left the library. "You look defeated." Yungyu jumped at the sound of Haemin's voice. "How long have you been there?" he questioned. He shrugged, "Long enough to know you fucked up on the first day with her," Haemin laughed, mocking Iseul's angry face.
Yungyu shook his head, "I just thought she wouldn't think about it," Haemin snorted. "You're stupider than I thought then," he said, rolling the skateboard under his foot. "God, if Crys and I were like you two... well, first, that would never happen because you know I wasn't scared-" Yungyu rolled his eyes. "I got it. You and Crys are perfect. Can we go now?" Haemin raised his hands in defense, "Ok, let's go, Blueberry." Haemin handed Yungyu the old chipped skateboard. "You gotta get a new one; that thing is falling apart," Haemin said as they skated alongside each other. "Do you ever shut your trap?" Yungyu said, sighing.
"And she made it, ladies and gents," Cam said as Iseul entered the shop. She adjusted the ugly blue vest on her before joining Cam behind the counter. "Just barely; you should've heard the things he said., the nerve of him!" she huffed, checking in and stealing a bite of Cam's burrito bowl. Cam laughed, picked up a box of jellies, and began to stock random shelves. "Is this a good time to say I told you so?" he hummed; he looked towards Iseul. "Don't cry; you know I'm not good at that," Iseul's bottom lip quivered as she chewed on a surplus amount of chicken, lettuce, and cheese. "Miserable cow is back," he mumbled to himself. "I HEARD THAT," Iseul yelled with a full mouth. Cam's eyes wandered to the door, widening as he saw two similar figures approaching.
"You better wipe your tears and the sour cream off your mouth," he said, making Iseul look to the door. Yungyu and Haemin entered, the bell above the door ringing loudly. Iseul ducked behind the register. Yungyu scanned the room, his eyes landing on Iseul. Carefully, he approached the counter. "Iseul?" she didn't meet his eyes and randomly tapped on the screen in front of her. "Yes, Yungyu?" she said, Yungyu bit his lip before speaking. "Can we talk?" he asked, his voice deep and calm. "And can you scan these?" Haemin said, pushing Yungyu aside and plopping snacks on the counter. Iseul scanned the items. Her eyes stopped on a bag of sour gummy worms, which Haemin obviously had gotten for Yungyu.
She sighed before looking at the boy, waiting for her answer. "Can you wait? My break is in an hour," she said, handing the plastic bag to Haemin. "Yeah, I'll be here," he said, nodding.
