Iseul had just gotten back from a weeks long vacation is Seoul visiting family. Over the course of that week she convinced herself everything with Yungyu was fine. The small texts and excuses didn't bother her, she knew now that she was home she got to see Yungyu again.
While unpacking her suitcase, she received a text from Yungyu himself. "Hey, you wanna go to the park?" Iseul eagerly texted back agreeing. Abandoning the piles of clothes on the floor, she pulled on the shoes nearest to her and ran out the door, sparing her mom little detail as to where she was going.
Iseul's heart raced as she neared the park, in the distance she could see Yungyu's head of bright blue hair slightly covered with a black hoodie. She let out a breathe a slowly approached the swing were he sat looking at his phone. The park was surrounded by the darkness of the sky above them. The only thing helping was the street lights that surrounded the park itself.
Iseul sat next to the empty swing next to him, the air felt thick and damp. "How was Seoul?" Yungyu asked quietly playing with the ring on his pointer finger. Iseul shrugged, "it was fine, visited family and...other boring stuff" she said, beginning to push herself lightly.
Yungyu hummed, his eyes focused on the ground. "So uhm- did you get your schedule today?" Yungyu continued. Iseul snorted while nodding, "Yeah, you know a bunch of bullshit AP classes my mom is forcing me to take" she smile lightly. she looked to Yungyu who was already looking at her.
Her smile faded, "What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?" she questioned him. Her swinging suddenly coming to an abrupt stop. Yungyu's jaw tightened at the question, "do you think... we will last? During school I mean" he said his breath was shaky. Iseul tilted her head and gave a dry laugh. "Yeah of course we will...why, you don't think we would?" she said searching his eyes. He stayed quiet, Iseul swallowed hard realization suddenly washing over her.
"Yungyu if what you're implying what I think you're implying then-" she stood up making Yungyu abruptly stand up and catch her wrist. He shook his head, "no, no, oh god no... I'm just saying maybe we should see how the summer ends and maybe see how-" Iseul's face flushed with embarrassment. "Are you breaking up with me?" her voice barely above the whisper, tears gathered in her eyes as she stared at Yungyu. He let out a loud breath, as if he had been holding it.
"Iseul- I just don't see it working out" he said, Iseul's chest grew heavy as she bit back tears. "Well why wait? Might as well just do it now" she ripped her wrist out of his grasp. Yungyu took a step back, the anger present in her voice. Yungyu had never seen Iseul angry before, let alone this angry. "God, you are such an ass" she seethed pushing his shoulder lightly. Yungyu couldn't help but stay quiet. "Iseul, we are two very different types of people...did you really think people at school wouldn't talk? I mean miss class president and the loser, wow" Yungyu said, his bottom lip quivered.
Isuel shook her head, "Why do you think I would care? I love you, Yungyu" her voice broke. Yungyu could only stare at the ground, ignoring Iseuls words. Iseul watched him in disbelief, she sighed running a hand through her hair. "You're a coward" she whispered softly, turning an exiting the park as fast as she could. Leaving Yungyu standing there, his head felt fuzzy.
Yungyu let out a huff blinking, he hurried home letting his backpack hit the floor harshly. He flopped onto his bed and sighed at the feeling of being locked away from the world. Iseul's words played in his head everyday since they came out of her mouth. He really tried to be happy in the following months after their split. He started rapping, skating more with his friends, hell he even started studying.
At the end of the day he couldn't help but stare at the polaroid of them that was taped to his bed frame. In the Iseul's smile shining brighter than his. Yungyu insisting of keeping it after catching her off guard on a date at the same park. His eyes tore away from the photo when he heard his phone buzz from his pocket.
Iseul: Meet me after school, I'll help you.
