Chapter 1

Maya's POV: It was Monday morning and I was walking to Riley's apartment so we could go to school like we do every morning. I heard footsteps coming up behind me, I sped up without looking back. The footsteps got faster too. After a few minutes I started running as fast as I could to get to Riley's apartment. I tripped over a rock and fell, I slid across the sidewalk scraping my legs. My backpack flew off my back and my homework went everywhere. I heard footsteps running up to me. "Hey! Are you okay?" A familiar voice called out. I turned to see Lucas. "Yeah, I'm fine. Wait. Were you the one chasing me?" I replied. "I wasn't chasing you, I saw you drop this back there and I was going to give it back to you but you got scared and ran from me." He said and handed me my silver charm bracelet. "Oh. Thanks." I said feeling pretty stupid. "Well we better head to school, we are gonna be late! Wanna walk with me?" He asked. "Yeah sure, let me text Riley and let her know to go on since we're late." I said. I pulled out my phone and texted her
M: Hey riles, I'm not coming this morning. Lucas asked me to walk with him. Long story.
R: WHAT? LUCAS ASKED YOU TO WALK WITH HIM TO SCHOOL???
M: yeah, but I told you it's a long story. Don't worry. See you at school.
R: okay. See ya.

"Ready to go?" Lucas asked.
"Yep!" I said and he reached out his hand to help me up.
As soon as our hands touched I felt something so strange. I had butterflies in my stomach, my heart skipped a beat. Do I have feelings for Ranger Rick? No way, it had to be something else I kept telling myself as we walked to school. It was so awkward, just the two of us. We got to school right on time, and rushed into Mr Matthews' class. Mr Matthews looked shocked by us walking in together. Riley gave me a mean glare. I just rolled my eyes at her. "Okay class, time to begin." Mr Matthews said.
