Okay guys. I think I might go crazy in this chapter....
Yoongi's voice.
Yeah.
I don't know how.
How can a voice be this beautiful? I mean, he can do everything: slow rap, aggressive rap, singing, etc.
In a world full of ✨️wannabe rappers✨️, he's a REAL rapper. He talk about his feelings, capitalism, depression and everything no one talks about.
Yoongi's voice is like a vacation on a lonely island; You're lying on the beach, you feel the sand and the sunlight on your skin and the waves break on the stones. You're relaxed, you're happy, you feel the music, you're just....home.
Let's talk about a few songs now.
I think his rap here is called funky rap.
"I feel like I'm, well, floating on air these days"
I personally think, that he's really floating here. I mean, the background music + his voice is just great.
"Step out of the moment, That's been trappin' you in all this negativity of hatred and insanity, Don't dwell on the past, it's time to make a change, Look around, believe in what you see, I have returned to hell"
Even though he's not fluent in English (but who knows?), he literally slayed this part. I mean, just give it a listen. You'll hear what I mean.
At the beginning of his part, there isn't much background music and he just flows into it. But you can hear how he changes his tone a bit when the beat drops. He just harmonizes with Halsey and I think that's beautiful.
"The amygdala is the part of the brain that is responsible for processing threatening stimuli, and it is activated when we feel fear or anger."
Starting with a slow beat and connecting it with a more energetic beat is a very Yoongi thing to do. He really flows - but not just with the background music. He can change his tone and control his breathing so that it sounds like the whole beat is changing but in reality it's just his voice changing, nothing else.
And the scary thing is, that it's not even an imagined story, it all happened to him. I watched the music video and I really got goosebumps and started to cry.
"In a world full of hate, Hate is even more unnecessary, Lotus flowers bloom brilliantly even in mud"
This is a more aggressive rap, but it also sounds great, because it's Yoongi. The beat isn't that loud or aggressive, but you can just feel it. You can feel that he's trying to say "Future's gonna be okay", "Who are you, huh?" or "Break the limits, mud won't stop you from growing".
I think it's time to talk about the most iconic Yoongi song, right? Beside the fact that this is one of the fastest raps I ever heard, this verses are interesting for me:
"I'm different from the hyungs"
"Damn only strong ones can mess with me."
"Some think it was easy for me to reach my position."
He talks about hate here. There were people, who thought it was too easy for them to become successful, but it wasn't.
This is one of the best diss tracks I ever heard and I think we can all agree with the fact, that Yoongi is a genius rapper, songwriter, lyricist and producer when it comes to writing songs.
