Unlikely meeting
We hadn't are in forever. The jobs my family had were lots of physical exercise, with barely any money. Every day when I would go to school I would take as much food from the cafeteria as I could fit in my pockets- however in school there was one boy I was jealous of. Treech, most popular boy in the school, his dad was a lumber and his mam was a baker. He would come in everyday with homemade bread. As if that wasn't enough he always smelt like fresh bread.
One day I was so hungry I would have done anything, my family was non stop complaining about hunger and I felt like I was about to starve. The moisture from my mouth had disappeared, the thoughts from my mind only being of food.
The pinkish light from the sky shining onto my families dining room. The only sound being grumbling from mine and my younger sister's stomach, we were waiting for our parents to enter after work.
"Lamina, I feel like I'm going to die." She said in an exaggerated tone, making me feel really bad for her. I pulled her into my arms, rocking her back and forth, talking about the world and things I know from school. Hoping to keep her distracted from the hunger burning inside of us.
Creek...
The door opened, my mother and father walking in covered in dirt. A blur of red ran past me, I knew it was from how fast my sister was running to them. As she was holding on to them my mother looked at me mouthing "I'm sorry, we couldn't get any food." That was it. I was sick. I pushed past as they tried to call out for me. I didn't care about myself, it was for them. I ran into the forest and leaned into a tree, breathing heavily because of how weak my body was.
A dim light caught the corner of my eye, the town bakery. Then the light shut off. No.. no? Why was that going through my head. I had to, my sister, my mam and my dad. They needed me to do this, I wouldn't get caught. I walked from the edge of the forest to the bakery, taking a pin from my head, accidentally pulling a strand of hair out.
Did I know what I was doing? Nope. I didn't, would I try- yes. I shoved the pin into the lock wiggling it around a bit, causing the decorated wooden door to pop open. I stepped into the bakery, gasping. The air tased delicious. Walls of bread, ovens still warm. I picked up a loaf of bread, shoving it into my pocket. A dim candle appeared behind me.
"What do you think you are doing?!" A voice asked from behind me. I was caught, I was going to be hung, in district 7 stealing was a crime that can be punished by execution. Without a thought, not even looking at who it is. I threw myself on the floor, my eyes on the verge of leaking.
"I'm sorry.. I am so sorry. I- I just.."
I said my voice breaking.
"You are that girl from my lumber class, aren't you?" A calm voice said, seaming to get closer, I heard the candle stand hit the wooden floor. I looked up, seeing a brunette boy sat opposite me, Treech, he looked different. Maybe he was in his pjs and didn't have his hat on.
