Where our lives fell apart...

(Laminas pov-15 years old)

It was the day before the reaping, meaning I was on edge. Worried for myself, my sister and treech. However Treech being the angle he is wanted to distract me so he invited me on a date in the middle of the forest. Italian was a lovely night. The sky shining orange, the grass a dark green. As I put on a jacket, my parents hugged me and said bye. I wandered through the peaceful forest for a few minutes before leaves led to an opening, dim candles lining the edge of a blanket with food on it. He always found a way to distract me even from the most horrific thoughts. As I spring into his arms, letting out a breathy giggle. He hugged me tightly. His breathing was ticking the lobe of my ear. As I let go of him and ate a bit of the food, we talked about school, how excited we where for next year, how nice it was going to be to go on our annual sledding and snowman building date a few months after the reaping. As time flew by, we didn't notice until it got so dark the only light was the candles right next to us. Treech took ahold of my hand, helping me stand. We both packed everything away. His lips grazed the top of my nose, before we went our separate ways.

In the morning I woke up to the rumbling and distress from outside, shit the reaping. How did I forget something like that, I ran dressing in my best clothes. Doing my hair, then helping my sister straighten out her trousers. Walking her to her first year of the Reaping. On the outside I was confident as they checked my identity. I didn't want to scare my sister. I kissed her on the forehead, hugged her with my sweating palms and told her where to meet me after.

As I stood in the crowd, eyes scanning for my sister, for treech and for my parents in the adult audience. We stood, every girl in the crowds breaths in time, shallow and shaky. As my eyes landed on Treech, he was already looking at me, mouthing the words you will be safe. Just as I smiled at him the mayor barged out, wanting this done quickly as ever, he grabbed the girls name, no care. No sense of humanity for the poor girl that would be pulled out.

"Lamina-" the second my name was said I started cry, begging underneath my breath to wake up from this nightmare. As I walked past everyone , I didn't care that I was crying, I didn't care I was weak. I just wanted it over with. It's not like it can get any worse.

The mayor strutted over the men, my blurred eyes unable to focus, I could just see blobs.

"Treech-" the second his name was sent the tears became stronger, my eyes began to sting as I made out Treech through the water in my eyes. The second he stepped on stage,we where both pushed behind the giant building, where a train was waiting, or as close to a train as we would ever get, the second the door open, the eyes of the tributes already chosen laying on us.

Treech threw himself onto the train, pulling me up after him. In the dark train, it look as if they tried to make it acceptable for human to ride in, they added arches to all the other sections, wooden benches inside.

In the train, a girl sat with ginger hair staring at us, with a young boy leaning on her shoulder. As I looked at him, he slightly smiled. His eyes full of pain, no matter how much he tried hiding it.

"It's his birthday, leave him the fuck alone." The girl barked at us.

"Coral it's fine." He said trying to fall asleep.

Treech put his arm over me, leading me to a bench, letting me lean on him.

(Sorry it's not the best!)
