"You're really putting me to work," she groaned.
Melina was positioned on a decline bench, doing a sit up. When she lifted her upper body, Benito's face met hers as he held her ankles. Her arms were in an x over her body, and she could feel beads of sweat line her face.
Benito watched her lower herself down and back up. The sweat glistened on her skin under the sunlight. They were outside, and she wore a hat to keep sun out of her face. She wore biker shorts and a sports bra, clothing he insisted on getting delivered for her through a carrier.
After he put in her clothes order, she venmo'd him the money. He laughed so hard and declined it. "Deja eso, muchacha. Y pedí dos porque uno se queda aquí."
Now, while she was doing decline sit-ups in clothes he bought for her, she watched as his backyard went upside down as she lifted her body down. Her ponytail hung down the bench as she saw his outdoor pool in the distance. She remembered that night when they first had sex months ago. She remembered the crew party here with crowds of people, and how the pool's colors alternated. She remembered submerging her entire body under the surface for a moment of calmness. A stranger jumped inside with her, and she hoped it was Benito joining her.
She brought her head back up and brought the entire world back right side up. She locked eyes with Benito's dark ones. He was always ready, waiting for her to come back up.
"Cinco más, vamos."
She let out a pained groan and dipped her head back. This was the worst. When was the last time she exercised...? Kali tried getting her on the fitness train long ago. Her job was extremely physical so she was strict with a gym routine, but Melina kept pushing it back.
She was really regretting it now.
My body literally feels like it's going to die.
".... Así!" Benito said when she finished the final rep. "Good job, lo hiciste."
She panted, feeling the sweat line her face and dizzy. Benito put his hand on her wrist and gently squeezed to feel her pulse. He looked at his watch and counted.
Concern rained down on his face as he looked back at her. "Your heart's beating this fast when we just started... Lo dijiste, you don't exercise at all."
She was too preoccupied with catching her breath to answer.
"Remind me to get you a fitness watch."
"I don't need one," she managed to say.
"Yes, you do," he wasn't hearing it and put his hands out for her. She laid her hands on his as he pulled her off the seat.
