The cold was bitter.
Victoria's thoughts rivaled that of the wind's savage bite.
"Is it true?" She questioned aloud.
The prospect was terrifying. Unthinkable. Unknowable.
The brush of a wing against her side heralded the arrival of her partner.
"I wish it weren't so." Bolden said.
"Yet it is," Victoria growled, "what do we do?"
"We keep it quiet," Bolden chirped, "no one can know."
Victoria grunted affirmation, gaze turning to the darkness of the sky. The stars shone with a chilling light far above.
"We keep it quiet." She affirmed, brushing her tail along her partner's side before heading back inside.
Bolden sensed her need for space and stayed behind, eying the cold sky dubiously. How long would their charade last? Only time would tell, he supposed as he eyed the cruel lights twinkling merrily above him.
"I'm sorry it has to be like this." He murmured before following in his partner's footsteps and heading inside, tail skimming the sandstone balcony.
