Tom Riddle incoherently paced back and forth in his dormitory as he studied his Defense Against The Dark Arts textbook. He had a test in two days, and he wasn't going to fail it.

He heard the door knock and stopped in his tracks, rolled his eyes, and lifted his wand toward the door. "Aberto!"

The door swung open, revealing Alphard Black standing there with a puzzled look on his face. He stepped into the room and shut the door behind him as Tom continued to read his textbook.

Raising an eyebrow, Alphard sat down on the leather couch wiith a heavy sigh as he watched as Tom read his textbook. "Studying for a big test, I presume?"

Tom grunted in reply, flipping another page in his book and not caring to give Alphard a decent response. He skimmed the page, frowning as he focused on the words he read aloud in his head.

'Some writers have suggested that all magic is really "colorless"; whether a practice is "Black Magic" or "White Magic" depends on its intent; for example, melting a wax Effigy to kill a cruel dictator; it might be considered White Magic by the people oppressed by the dictator, but Black Magic by the dictator himself...'

"Are you going to stand there studying all night, mate?" Alphard snapped Tom out of his thoughts with an irritable tone. "If so, do remind me to buy you a sign to hang outside of your dorm room that says, 'Away In Hibernation, Come Again!'"

Tom looked up from his textbook and glared at Alphard, giving him a look that could only let him know how disruptive and bothersome he was being.

"I don't remember inviting you to my room," Tom retorted and closed his book with a swift motion, putting and holding it behind his back. "What is it? What's so catastrophically invaluable that you must need to disrupt my learning for?"

Alphard raised an eyebrow at Tom before holding back a smirk. "You know, Tom," he started and leaned an arm on the backrest casually. "Slytherin is hosting a gathering in the Astronomy Tower tonight, in celebration of the new school year. Mind taking a couple of hours and joining to latch onto some school spirit?"

How the hell are they hosting a party in the Astronomy Tower?

Tom subtly rolled his eyes at Alphard's question and brought his textbook in front of him once more to open it. "Absolutely not."
