"Bro, are you sure you wanna go through with this?"
Ryan Butler was sat, watching his best friend of many years fixing the tie on his neck. He shook his head, knowing the twenty-five year old despised the type of clothing. "I can't believe you're getting dressed up for this", he said, chuckling.
Suddenly, the boy turned to him with a risen brow, "I need this, alright? I know I may be really young.. But I love that girl with everything in me." Justin let out a huff before focusing back on the mirror, trying to get the tie to stay in place. After he did, he immediately went for the vest he had draped on his computer chair.
"You already asked her, didn't you?", Ryan questioned him before crossing his arms.
Justin chuckled, buttoning up the vest, "of course i have.. But, I didn't ask properly. I didn't even have a ring." He shook his head and pulled out the velvet case he'd been carrying. "She comes back home tomorrow night, and if I don't talk to him now, I might not ever get to have her."
"You've been dating her for a while, and her dad still doesn't like you? That's kinda sad, man", Ryan laughed before a glare was sent his way.
"Alright, I'm ready.. I'll be back later", Justin ran another hand through his hair, giving his best friend a handshake. He left and was now in the driveway of a certain Cuban's home. Her old home, before she left of course. The whole speech he'd been memorizing for the past few weeks was currently replaying in his head as he slowly and casually walked up the doorsteps. "It's now or never", he muttered before ringing the doorbell. Waiting a few minutes, a young woman was stood and a small smile formed on her lips. "Justin, what are you doing here? Lauren doesn't come home until tomorrow, nice outfit by the way", she laughed a bit.
"Thank you, ma'am", Justin smiled back laughing softly, "I actually came to talk to you, and Mr. Jauregui.. Is he here?", he started to become a bit nervous as she nodded, looking slightly confused. "Do you want to come in?", she asked, stepping back.
The young man nodded, walking in just as Lauren's father had descended from the staircase. "What are you doing here?", he rose a brow, looking him up and down. It was no secret that he had no liking in Justin, even if his daughter was dating him. Justin cleared his throat before Clara came in between them, smiling. "Let's talk in the family room, come on." She walked, Justin following behind. He felt eyes burrowing into the back of his head and he already knew Mike was staring him down. They all sat down, Justin across from the two older Jauregui's and he gave them a small smile.
"Now.. What did you want to talk about?", she asked smiling softly, as if to comfort him. It worked, because Justin smiled back, "I uh, I'm really nervous about being here", he glanced at the both of them and scratched back at his neck. "I've been dating your daughter for more than five years now. I love her with everything in me.. I know I'm not perfect, but who is? All I know is that she makes me the happiest man alive." Justin paused for a minute, and pressed his lips into a thin line, "I know you don't like the idea of us together, but I love Lauren with is my everything, she's helped me to become a better person." At this point, his main focus was on Mike, who just sat there and listened, staring right back at him. "I came to ask for your permission in asking for your daughter's hand in marriage. I know we may be young, but I promise you I won't let you down on this-"
Mike held a hand up, causing him to quiet down. "You want to marry my daughter?", he asked, staring the younger man down.
"Yes sir", Justin replied, "I know you're an old fashioned kind of guy, so I wanted to ask you before anything."
"Good", he nodded, "you're a good guy, Justin. But-"
His heart stopped, already knowing where this conversation was going. He bit at his bottom lip.
