Nat's POV

"Hey buddy, how are you feeling?" Peter was slowly beginning to wake up after having surgery.

He groaned and then sat up so fast he almost smacked his head into mine.

"Woah, hey, it's alright."

"S-sorry," he stuttered.

My heart ached, the poor thing, he must be so scared.

"Do you remember what happened?" I asked him tentatively.

He hesitated before nodding briefly.

"There was a sharp pain and then I passed out?"

I nodded, "How does your head feel?"

"A little foggy," he admitted.

"That's fair enough, the reason for that is the chip in your head, it's from when you were with Hydra."

His eyes widened slightly as he processed what I meant. "We had thought it was disabled years ago but in truth, we should have removed it."

"Can I ask why you didn't?"

"It was too risky, it's connected directly to your brain, and if anything had gone wrong in the surgery you would have died."

He nodded with understanding and glanced down at his hands, fidgeting.

"I um, I had a dream or memory? I'm not sure."

I suddenly got excited. "What was it about?"

"You." he looked back up at me, tears rimming his eyes. "I was... I was in the training hall, and you came in and we talked for a bit, and then... and then you hugged me?" I don't think he meant to make it into a question.

Tears welled in my eyes, "That was the first time you ever really opened up to me, to anyone actually."

He seemed a little surprised at that but gave me a small smile.

"Nat, Boss has asked if you could please go up to the main floor." we both jumped a little as FRIDAY spoke through the speakers.

"Will you be alright? I'll only be a minute." he nodded and I made my way towards the elevator.

"Are you sure it would even be safe for him?" Steve voiced what we were all wondering.

Tony had just conducted a ton of research and put together a plan to get the chip out of Peter's head. He explained that the chip could be the reason for his memory loss and his idea seemed straightforward enough but there was still a risk to the procedure.

"Well, all surgeries have risks but I know how we can do this safely....there's only one tiny thing."

"What thing Tony?" I snapped.

"Due to his enhanced...abilities, I'm not entirely sure how he'll react to anaesthesia, i don't know if he'll need more or less than an average human or if it will even affect him at all."

"What if we just give him little bits at a time just for trial to see how he goes with it?" Bruce said as he wrote something down on his iPad.

Tony seemed to consider this for a minute before saying, "That could work actually. We'll ask him first if he's okay with being put to sleep a fair bit but if he agrees that should be good."

We all agreed and Tony, Bruce, and I walked down to Medbay to ask Peter.
