chapter 1; where everything begins

"Dude, you won't believe who's switching schools this year," Drei announced, a grin stretched across his face that hinted at a secret he was eager to share. "Tangina sabihin mo, 'sino'?"
"Who?" I inquired, not tearing my gaze away from the book in my hands, itong si Drei talaga hindi makakapag pigil sa chismis.
"It's Izza," he revealed, his grin unwavering.
"Wait..." I abruptly closed my book, "You mean Erizza Jane Choi?"
"Exactly, my best friend," Zayv chimed in, "She's transferring here, but unfortunately, she's not going to be in the STEM strand. She's in GAS."
"Aight." I gathered my belongings and my book, "We should head to our chemistry class. We're running late, at alam ko na magsisisihan nanaman kayo'ng dalawa pag nahuli tayo ni prof."
We reached our classroom, where our professor was already present, and everyone was engrossed in their own tasks. We attempted to sneak in unnoticed, but to our surprise, the loud thud of a meter stick against a wooden table echoed in the every corner of the room, "Sanchez, Sivan, Ville, once again, you three are late!"
We straightened up in front of our stern professor. I could see Drei's lips twitching, holding back a fit of laughter. "Damn, we're late again," Zayv muttered, shooting Drei a blaming look.
"Well, you're the gossip here," Drei shot back, "If you hadn't told me about Izza transferring, I wouldn't have told Ash."
A loud thud interrupted, "Enough, Mr. Sivan and Mr. Ville. The three of you will clean the entire library after class hours, understood?"
"Yes sir!" we chorused, as he signaled for us to take our seats.
"It's your fault," Zayv muttered to Drei.
"You," the other retorted.
If I weren't friends with these two, I would have smacked them for their incessant bickering, "You two are like cats and dogs, were you born just to fight?"
"Yes, and you're the referee!" they both exclaimed simultaneously, it's strange how they always end up thinking the same thing during their quarrels, as if they were rival twins.
I just sat down and started the activity our professor had given, knowing I wouldn't gain anything by trying to intervene in their squabble. They're just like some sort of kids who wouldn't stop without smacking or hurting each other.
After class, we headed straight to the library. I quickly donned my PPE and gathered cleaning materials to start and finish as early as possible.
I knew the two would just argue in front of me, so I didn't wait for them. "Hey, Ash, we've been calling you!" Drei's shout startled me.
"W-why?" I stammered, still recovering from the surprise.
"Erizza invited us out for an early dinner, are you in?" Zayv asked straightforwardly.
"Sure, why not? But why are you inviting me? Isn't she just your friend?" I asked, continuing to wipe the table.
"Our friend is her friend. So hurry up, you've been wiping that table since forever. Are you trying to erase every speck of dirt from the 90s?" Drei teased.
I glared at him. This guy did nothing but crack jokes and pick-up lines, most of which were corny, stale.
I removed my PPE, tidied up the cleaning materials, grabbed my things and headed out. The sky was already darkening, and I glanced at my watch, 6:30 PM.
