Notes- Please let me know how you like this chapter I will be knocking out updates on this as quickly as I can. So please enjoy.🌸It was already late in the evening. Sirens blared down the street, dogs barked in the distance, and cars honked as they passed by. Growing up on the Eastside of Los Angeles was tough, with drugs and violence on every corner. All you wanted was to escape, but you were stuck, making the best of your situation. You worked part-time waiting tables at a local sports bar and occasionally landed small modeling gigs, though lately, those had been slow.
Today was one of those slow days, but luckily, you had paid your rent and saved a bit extra. You were lying in bed watching YouTube videos when your phone lit up with Yuji's name. You instantly paused and accepted his call on the first ring.
"Hey Yuji," you greeted him. He took his time responding, all you could hear were sniffles and sharp intakes of breath.
"Are you okay?" you asked, hearing his labored breathing and shaking voice.
"Hey Bunny, can you come over?" he replied between loud, gulping breaths. You sat up straight, concern etched on your face and heart racing. Yuji didn't sound right, and you wondered what had happened.
Yeah, sure. Is everything okay?" you asked hesitantly, hearing rustling on the other end.
"Yeah, I- uh..." He couldn't continue, his words lost in labored sobs. "Um, no. Not really. Just come over." His voice quivered and then went silent.
"Okay, I'll be right there," you said, swiftly hanging up. You rummaged through your clothes and settled on a yellow thigh-length sundress with pink flowers. "This will do," you thought, slipping it on along with a pair of not-so-white vans. Tying your hair into a quick ponytail and spritzing on body spray, you grabbed your keys and phone, and headed out the door.
Sprinting next door to Itadori's house, you arrived at the weathered door and knocked as you caught your breath. Yuji, with red eyes and tears streaming, opened the door immediately. You wrapped your arms around him, asking, "Yuji, is everything okay?"
Your hands moved across his back to his nape, trying to soothe his emotional pain. He broke down immediately, squeezing you tightly as he began to speak.
"My grandpa, my grandpa is gone," he mumbled into the crook of your neck. Yuji barely moved to let you into the foyer, continuing to cry and sniffle, his tears wetting your skin. After a few moments, you led him to the porch to sit. With his arm resting on your shoulders, you looked up at Yuji, trying to offer comfort.
"Yuji, I'm here for you. I'm here for whatever you need."you reassured, rubbing his back. Yuji turned towards you, embracing you once again, tighter than last time. In a muffled voice he said, "Thank you."
After a few moments of just sitting in silence. The nighttime summer weather, wasn't as cool as you'd hoped but not too hot to keep you out.
"We need to call the authorities, and you should reach out to your brother." Yuji groaned weakly at the mention of his brother. You knew they had issues, but this was different; his grandfather had passed.
"I haven't seen him in two years. The last time I saw him was when he had a fight with Grandpa and said that he never wanted to see either of us again. Well, that's what Grandpa told me, he banned him from coming around the house ever again." he mumbled.
"Damn" You craned your head up to him. You knew about the rift, but never to this level of hostility that seemed to exist. You held Yuji, being the big spoon, trying your hardest to shield him from the sadness surrounding both of you.
"I'm sure he didn't mean that, and this is still your brother Yuji, and your blood. Regardless of how he has acted toward you and grandpa, he needs to know." It didn't matter whether he disagreed or not with your idea of informing his estranged brother, but the right thing to do was call and inform him of his grandfather's death.
