Octavia sits in Professor McGonagall's office as the sun rises. The light chases away the terrors of the night before, though nothing could ever undo the burning of two lives. One dead. One cursed. She's beyond exhausted though she's unsure whether she can sleep again. So instead, she tugs her fingers in her lap, waiting for McGonagall to return.
The head of their house has spoken with everyone individually to gain sense of the night's events. She's currently speaking with Lavender's parents in the hospital wing with Remus Lupin. Octavia trembles at the thought of her friend's life now dramatically altered for the rest of her years.
She's distracted by the corridors, which are full of ministry officials dealing with the aftermath of the night. Aurors investigate how the Death Eaters were able to enter the castle despite every protective measure while others interrogate students and staff of the circumstances. Her father is here as well, assisting detectives with his valuable information about the dark witches and wizards that infiltrated Hogwarts.
The door creaks open, revealing a very tired looking Minerva McGonagall. She offers Octavia a curt smile as she sits behind her desk with a sigh, rubbing her temples. The older witch's age has never been more prominent than it did right then.
"I'm legally supposed to be sharing the circumstances of last night with every student witness." McGonagall begins with a sigh, "I'm sure you have a lot of questions for me, Ms. Cunning, but I ask of you to wait until I've gone through every detail."
Octavia nods, and she continues, "Last night, Draco Malfoy revealed himself to be a Death Eater. Aurors found a vanishing cabinet in the Room of Requirement after he and his accomplices escaped, which explains how they were able to get inside the castle. The Room's loyality lays within Hogwarts, so it had no problem revealing itself. The Death Eaters' plan was to kill Albus Dumbledore and turn the tide of this war. Unfortunately, they were successful. They even brought along Fenrir Greyback to ensue chaos amongst us, I'm sure you're well aware. As they Apparated across campus, it appears that he wanted to... feast on someone before his departure."
Professor McGonagall is silent for a few moments to allow Octavia to process the information. Their gazes go out the window, where Ministry officals are wrangling with the media.
"I know you're wondering who killed Albus." McGonagall says quietly, "When I called for an emergency staff meeting last night, after ensuring Ms. Brown will survive, all but one arrived."
"Snape." Octavia whispers with dread.
The professor nods, "The Aurors have concluded that he too probably escaped with the Death Eaters, and possibly even helped Draco. No one knows who exactly is behind Albus' death, but with the circumstances, we can assume Draco might have been assigned to this task to make up for his father's failure." she gestures, "Now, you may ask questions."
