❛ windows swung right open, autumn air ❜

September 9th, 1996

The autumn leaves are crisp beneath shoes. The temperature is perfect sweater weather without feeling the chill, keeping the moods uplifted throughout the September days. This was the season of butterbeer and fireplaces.

"I'm so glad the N.E.W.T level classes are more career oriented." Parvati reflects upon their first week, "Finally, the contents are applicable for my ambitions."

"It's hard think about things like our careers." Octavia lounges on the floor beside the fireplace, sighing as she watches the flame dance before her eyes, "Especially with all that's going on."

"You spent all summer essentially in combat." Dean says pointedly, "With your intensive training and such. It's natural that it's all on your mind."

Lavender's brows raise at his shocking wisdom, "Wow, that muggle internship with at that therapist center did wonders for you."

"How many things have you done this past summer?" Parvati is shocked, "You lived another life, I swear!"

"Yeah, you hear he's dating Ginny Weasley now?" Seamus grins, "We've barely been here for seven days and he's already got the girls fawning over him."

Dean looks positively flustered as he chucks his notebook at him, rolling his eyes, "I breathe once and they come running to me, what can I say?"

"Ginny's a catch though." Lavender says, "I bet she was the one who did the breathing and you did the running."

Octavia pushes the solemn thoughts out of her head as she joins her friends' laughter. She cannot escape the lurking shadow that is stuck at her heel, but she can at least enjoy herself before it took over entirely.

"How's Ron handling it?" she asks Dean, "I reckon he wasn't too happy to hear the news."

"He doesn't know yet." he leans back in his armchair with a shake of his head, "She doesn't want him to."

"OI, THOMAS!" an angry voice bellows suddenly, as if on cue.

Sure enough, Ron Weasley is approaching the group, his face scarlet with rage. Behind him, Ginny is rolling her eyes.

"Ah, the red boy is approaching." Seamus' hands go behind his head as he enjoys the show, "Good luck, Dean."

Octavia grins at Dean's grumbles as he leaves the group to address Ron.
