POV AUTHOR

“Tara, hurry up! We’re gonna be late!” Manav shouted as Tara fumbled with her shoelaces.

“Yaar, monkey, tie my laces for me! I can’t do it!” Tara whined, pouting dramatically.

“You’re already grown up, but you still don’t know how to tie your laces?” Manav retorted with a grin but gave in and tied her shoes anyway.

“Okay, bye Mumma! Bye, Dad!” both of them shouted in unison, rushing out the door toward his bike.

They reached school, and both of them went their separate ways, with Tara heading to her class.

As Tara was walking through the corridor, suddenly—bam!—someone shoved her.

“Hey, are you blind or what?” Tara shouted, rubbing her shoulder and glaring at the guy.

“I’m sorry, Shorty,” the guy smirked, clearly finding the whole thing amusing, which only added fuel to Tara’s fire.

“Did you just call me Shorty, you idiot?” Tara said, hands on her hips, glaring at him like she could set him on fire with her eyes.

“I don’t see anyone else around, so yeah, I must’ve been talking to you,” the guy shrugged, rolling his eyes like it was the most casual thing in the world.

“You duffer, chimpanzee, idiot, moron—” Tara was on a roll, throwing every insult in her vocabulary at him before stomping off to her class, muttering angrily under her breath.

“Huh, who does he think he is?” she grumbled as she plopped down in the last seat of the classroom.

“What happened, Jhansi Ki Rani?” Ishita, sitting ahead of her, teased.

“Nothing, just bumped into an idiot,” Tara sighed, not wanting to talk about it anymore. “By the way, what’s that you’re writing?”

“Ugh, my economics homework,” Ishita groaned, making Tara chuckle.

“You look like you’re about to die doing that,” Tara teased, still grinning.

“Don’t even joke, it’s the worst! And why are you laughing as if economics is your favorite subject?” Ishita raised an eyebrow.

“Nah, it’s not my favorite,” Tara said, sticking out her tongue. “I’m laughing at your misery because, guess what? I finished my homework yesterday!”

“Okay, Miss Perfect,” Ishita rolled her eyes but couldn’t help but laugh.

Suddenly, Shivi burst into the conversation with a dreamy look on her face. “Guys! You won’t believe it. I was passing through the corridor, and there was this handsome guy! He’s so hot! All the girls in our stream were drooling over him!”

“Come back from your dream world and let’s go to the boring assembly,” Mahi teased, snapping Shivi out of her daze.

“Ugh, all of you are just haters of my dreams,” Shivi muttered dramatically. “You can’t digest my happiness.”

“You’re absolutely right,” Mahi said sarcastically, rolling her eyes.

POV TARA

Ms. Sanvi was mid-lecture when we suddenly heard a deep, manly voice from the doorway.

“Can I come in, Miss?”

“Yes, Rohan, come in,” Sanvi ma’am said, and that’s when I saw him. And my thoughts instantly froze. How can the world be this unfair? My mind was screaming. This chimpanzee was now in our class!

“Class, meet Rohan Ahuja, your new classmate,” Sanvi ma’am announced cheerfully. I couldn’t even process her words. My only thought was: Why? Why him?

“Tara, you know he’s the one I was talking about. My crush,” Shivi whispered excitedly.

“What?!” I shouted, not meaning to, but there was no stopping it. Shivi, of course, pinched my arm immediately.

“What happened, Ms. Sharma? Any problem?” Sanvi ma’am asked, looking at me like I had two heads. The whole class was staring now, and Rohan—the chimpanzee—was smirking.

“No, ma’am,” I said, trying to act normal while my face turned red. I couldn’t believe Shivi had a crush on this guy! My thoughts were interrupted when Sanvi ma’am said the words I never wanted to hear.

“Rohan, go ahead and sit behind Tara, next to Shreyas.”

Why? Why me?!

“Hey, Shorty, looks like we meet again,” Rohan said, smirking as he plopped into the seat behind me, ruffling my hair like he owned the place.

“You chimpanzee, I swear—if you do that again, I’ll—” I started to whisper yell, but he just stuck his tongue out at me.

“Enough, Tara, Rohan,” Sanvi ma’am said sternly. “Focus on the class.” I huffed in frustration and tried to pay attention.

“Do you know him?” Shivi whispered excitedly. I told her about our earlier encounter, and she couldn’t help but laugh.

“Tara, but seriously, you should get your eyes checked because there’s no way he’s handsome,” I said, scrunching up my face in mock disgust.

Shivi, of course, glared at me. “Shut up. He’s a perfect blend of hot and cute! But I know you won’t agree because your heart is taken by Tarun bhai. I totally get it,” she said with a mischievous grin and I blushed hearing it and his face flashed infront of my eyes.

"Hey! Hey stop going into TARUN BHAI'S ‘dream land’or Ms. Sanvi ma’am will put you in a 'suspension' land"shivi said while Shooking me and I rolled my eyes at her.

******

The bell rang for break, and as we packed up, two guys suddenly appeared in front of me.

“Hey, beautiful, I’m Sahil,” one of them said, and I honestly felt like I might vomit.

“Hii,” I said, barely even glancing at him, not interested in shaking his hand.

“So, how about joining me for breakfast?” he asked, moving closer and trying to touch me. Before I could react, I felt someone yank him away.

“Hey, bro, back off,” came the familiar voice of Rohan, the chimpanzee. He jerked Sahil’s hand away and yanked me behind him like a protective shield.

“What’s your problem, man?” Sahil snapped, clearly frustrated, but Rohan wasn’t having it.

“I’m warning you, stay away from her. Do you really want to find out what happens if you don’t?” Rohan said with a dangerously calm tone.

Shivi and the others were right behind us, following as we walked away.

“Rohan, heyy?? Why did you save me?” I asked, a little confused. He shrugged but smirked, clearly pleased with himself.

“Don’t get any ideas. You’re my shorty enemy,” he scoffed.

“But… thanks,” I said reluctantly, and walked off with my friends, shaking my head.

“Did you see how hot he looked when he was angry?” Shivi asked with stars in her eyes. “The way he defended you? I’m falling harder for him!”

“Ugh, you’re impossible,” I muttered, rolling my eyes.
