4th day beyond the Gate
Warsaw Pact permament FOB, Alnus Hill
It's been four days since the Warsaw Pact started its expedition in the Gate and things are going pretty fast here and there. Now the steady stream of supplies are being properly transported across the Gate Since the second day and thus many units are able to replenish their losses from the battle days prior. This also means that the engineers unit can properly begin their work to convert a temporary FOB into a permanent one with them starting their work almost immediately after they receive building materials. With their position on the side of the Gate secured the Warsaw Pact High Command began to issue orders to units commander to begin exploring the surrounding area in search for more information about this world and thus beginning the second phase of this expedition.
Lieutenant Stoyan Stoyanov, commander of the 1st Armored Recon Platoon of the 2nd BTG was summoned by Potemkin to brief about his mission today. As soon as he arrived he was greeted by Potemkin, Kutuzov and Andrena and on the table in front of them was a giant map which Stoyan didn't recognize.
"Good Morning, comrade Colonel." Stoyanov greets Potemkin, saluting him.
"Good Morning, comrade Lieutenant. You can raise your hand down." Potemkin nodded and replied back as an answer.
"So, why did you summon me here, comrade Colonel?"
"I will be briefing you about your task for today's task. Here, come look at this map." As he speaks, Potemkin invites Stoyanov to get closer and tell him to look at the map on the table.
Stoyanov nods and walks closer to get a better look of a map. What he sees is a map of a hill surrounded by a small chunk of flatland and huge amount of wooden area with a big red x mark on a hill indicating something was there. Stoyanov stood there staring at the map for quite some time before looking at Potemkin and asking him.
"Is this a map of our location, comrade Colonel?"
"Yes, it is."Upon confirmation from Potemkin, Stoyanov looks back at the map again and begins his analysis. Even with all the detail, this map is still rough at best and misses a lot of things a good military map should have and it is still far from being useful but he also understands this is the best piece of information he can possibly get right now.
"So, what exactly is my task, comrade Colonel." Right after he finished with his analysis, he raised his head up and asked Potemkin a question.
"High Command wants us to send a reconnaissance detachment to explore the surrounding area and gather as much information as we can possibly get. Location, wildlife, what kind of people live in the area, type of vegetarian, local resources. Anything. For this mission, I will attach an infantry platoon with your unit. They will act as your main body of forces in case of fighting and will assist you in your mission. Your task is to lead your men to the Northwestern area of this hill and explore it."
"I see. How long will this mission last, comrade Colonel?"
"I don't know the exact number but I guess it might last around three to four days at least or a week in the worst case scenario." "If it did last that long, how will I be able to resupply my unit?"
"Possibly via airborne drop, most likely air force's helicopter. I heard that the engineer units are working on a temporary airfield and it will become operational within one or two days at least."
"Alright, that's all the question I have. When do you want me to start my mission, comrade Colonel?"
"As soon as you can, comrade Lieutenant."
