The sound of boots thudded in my bedroom, making the hair on my neck stand up straight. I was positioned in the hallway, straightening a floor length mirror between the doors of my room and my roommate's.
On edge, I peered into space between the door and the frame. When I noticed a pair of black combat boots that hadn't been my imagination, I pressed a fist to my mouth to cover a yelp and scrambled for the front door to my apartment.
Before I could make it three feet, a pair of warm arms caught my waist. Before I could scream to alert Minnie, my new roommate, that we were under attack, a calloused hand covered my mouth.
"You know, Heiress," a familiar voice huffed, its owner's arms struggling to hold me still, "if you keep reacting like this, people will assume I'm an abusive boyfriend."
I pushed away Jameson's arms and scrambled a couple feet back - not because I didn't want to hug him but because, at the moment, I was royally pissed.
"Why did you do that?" I hissed.
"Do what?"
I glowered at him. "Climb in through the window!"
"Because I love a thrill, Heiress. Have we met?"
I stared him down until he supplied the real answer.
"I didn't want your roommate to see me," he murmured.
I couldn't help my smirk.
Ever since I'd started moving into my apartment, Minnie, the crackhead girl I was going to live with, had been shamelessly hitting on Jameson.
"In that case," I said, ushering him back into my bedroom, "let's move."
I locked the door behind me.
Before I had a chance to do a one-eighty, jameson's hips nudged me back against the door.
I tried to escape just for the fun of it.
"Uh-uh." Smirking, he pinned my hands behind my back, and with his free hand, he held my neck to the door, too. "I missed you too much for you to avoid a kiss."
Even though I figured he'd do more than kiss me, I said, "It's only been two days."
"My limit is approximately three hours."
I smiled. Jameson was a hairbreadth away. "College is going to murder you, then."
"Already picked out my coffin," he agreed, kissing me hard. For a couple minutes, Jameson and I couldn't manage anything other than devouring each other. Finally, when we'd both managed to catch our breath, he said, "On a real note, Heiress, if you don't call me at least once a day, I'll have a stroke."
"Noted."
Jameson pulled back from the door and started eyeing the small twin bed tucked into the corner of my room. Before he could get any ideas, I said, "You need to be punished for how bad you scared me."
Jameson raised an eyebrow. "What do you have in mind?"
I pushed him far enough away from my door to open it. Peeking my head out, I called, "Minnie! Jameson's here!"
My boyfriend glared at me.
A few moments later, when my ridiculous, blonde-headed, overly flirtatious roommate walked in, I saw murder in his eyes.
"I'm going to give you hell for this," he said, over his shoulder.
I grinned. "Can't wait."
