"Alayna. Alayna, it's time to go. We're expected at the house in 20 minutes," my father told me through my door.
"Maybe I don't want to go."
"Sweetheart, we need to go. We can't afford to live here, and the village doesn't exactly like me right now."
"Fine. Let me grab my bags."
I grabbed my bags and walked out of my bedroom. I walked down the winding staircase, and accidentally skipped a step, which caused me to tumble down the rest of the stairs.
"Miss Alayna, are you alright?" Mr. Whitmore asked me, lifting me by my arm a little too tightly.
"I'm fine, sir. Thank you," I told him as I pulled away from him. I rubbed my arm gently.
"I'm sorry, miss, did I hurt you?" he asked me, grabbing my arm to examine it.
"Sir, I am fine. Please don't worry about me. There is much more important business at hand."
"I apologize, Miss Alayna. I did not mean to vex you. Please, carry on. I'm going to go aid your father..." he walked away.
"Wait, Mr. Whitmore, I'm sorry if you feel like your help was not accepted. It was most gracious of you to aid me."
"You are most welcome, Miss Alayna." Mr. Whitmore smiled and then walked over to my father who was carrying a box that probably weighed as much as him.
I grabbed my bags, and ran out to the carriage that was going to take us to our new cottage.
"Alayna, come here, I need your help," I heard my father calling me.
I ran over to him, and noticed that he was rather green looking.
"Father, are you okay?" I inquired after him.
"I am fine, Alayna. Could you do me a favor and grab that box over there. If it is too heavy, I can ask Mr. Whitmore or one of the servants to grab it instead," he leaned over, clutching his stomach. He then rolled his eyes and started to fall. Thankfully, I caught him, and then led my father inside.
"Someone call the doctor! My father needs help!" I yelled, trying to get someone's attention.
"Miss Alayna, where is he?" I led Mr. Whitmore to my father, who was laying on a sofa in the drawing room."Miss Alayna, do you think you can run quickly? I need you to run to the town and get the doctor. We can't spare the carriage, because with all of the bags and boxes on it already, it'll be too slow. The doctor should be in his office. You need to hurry."
I ran straight out of the room, and ran as fast as I could to the town. The town was about 1 mile away from our manor, so it was slightly hard on my legs, considering my skirt.
"Dr. Chester! Dr. Chester!" I yelled when I reached Dr. Chester's office.
"Miss Alayna. How nice to see you. How may I help you? I dare say, you look like you need a glass of water," Dr. Chester greeted me, getting me a glass of water.
"Sir, my father. He is seriously ill; he needs help. I don't know what is wrong with him, but he didn't look well, and he kind of fainted. We need to go now," I led him out of his office.
"Let me get my carriage. It will be quicker," he said, leading me to his carriage.
We rode in the carriage all the way to the mansion, and as soon as we got there, I ran to Papa.
"Papa! Papa! I brought the doctor to visit you!" I rushed to my father, who looked paler than I remembered him being.
"Miss Alayna, I'm afraid I must ask you to leave. I don't like family to be there when I treat a patient," the doctor told me.
