Aurora

Do you know the worst thing about sisters? They know each other too well.

Let's start from the beginning. Not the ‘beginning’ beginning, but when I became a sister.

Here is an eight-year-old girl, standing and looking at a new creature, who is supposed to be from the same parents and of the same species. Wrapped like a burrito.

Now you know that this creature lying in front of you is going to be the centre of the universe because everyone has been talking about its arrival for a very long time. And how it's going to be very difficult for your mom to handle two kids. How it's going to be your duty as an elder one to do certain things and behave a certain way, try setting an example of being a good sister etc etc. Then after a while, this creature is going to start walking and running ... Until one day it opens its mouth and starts giving its own opinions. That day everyone will realise that this creature is no different than the rest of us.

You are fooling no one if you say that you were never jealous of your younger sibling. It is very easy to dismiss that idea. At the back of your mind, you know that you were jealous of them. Getting half of your time, half of your love and half of your attention. Then time passes by and you realise that your sibling has somewhat become a part of your identity. A part of who you are. And that some people recognise you only as their sister. It's weird that way.

And a part of you always wants to do something for your sibling, protect her, care for her, fight for her, fight with her maybe even punch her. An identity, which cannot be shunned no matter how hard you try...

That identity becomes a part of you. And with that idea, you are ready to do anything for them.
